The conflict started <strong>in</strong> Abraham’s day, when his two famous sons; Ishmael, the eldestson born of an Egyptian slave woman and Isaac, the youngest son, born of Sarah (Genesis 21:8).For centuries,, Ishmael dwelt <strong>in</strong> the land, then, <strong>in</strong> 1948, Isaac arrived. The clash between thembr<strong>in</strong>gs the fear of a full-scale war, <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g the whole world.Not only are the nations of earth <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> the Middle East, but that part of the worldhas always had – and cont<strong>in</strong>ues to have – a very unique position <strong>in</strong> God’s program and purpose.This area is he cradle of human civilization. Adam and Eve were placed by God <strong>in</strong> the Garden ofEden located near the Euphrates Rivers (Genesis 2:14).The nation of Egypt was <strong>in</strong> world-power <strong>in</strong> the days of the prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah andEzekiel and boasted of a longer l<strong>in</strong>e of k<strong>in</strong>gs than any other nation <strong>in</strong> the history of mank<strong>in</strong>d.Egypt was considered the granary of the world. Egypt was em<strong>in</strong>ent <strong>in</strong> science, a nation of luxuryand magnificence. Egypt led all of civilization <strong>in</strong> her progress. Like the pyramids, she defiedtime, or the forces of nature, to change her.God prophesies <strong>in</strong> the 29 th and 30 th chapters of Ezekiel concern<strong>in</strong>g Egypt, and <strong>in</strong> 29:14He says that Egypt would never “be <strong>com</strong>pletely destroyed, or utterly ext<strong>in</strong>ction but that shewould be<strong>com</strong>e the bases (weakest) of all the k<strong>in</strong>gdoms of the world and ruled by strangers.”Centuries passed after Ezekiel prophesied these words, however, the time came when Egypt fell.Egypt would do just as God said. No nation will ever change God’s Word. One historian writes,“One of the greatest calamities of all the world happened when Egypt was conquered by theBabylonians <strong>in</strong> 571 B.C. The <strong>in</strong>vaders burned Egypt’s world-famous library, which supplied fuelfor six months.” S<strong>in</strong>ce that time, Egypt has been ruled by eight different nations, just as God hadpredicted.The writ<strong>in</strong>g of the prophets of old read like today’s newspaper!I will speak of Egypt <strong>in</strong> <strong>Bible</strong> prophecy <strong>in</strong> a later lesson, but, now back to <strong>Israel</strong>.<strong>Israel</strong> is a natural corridor between the north as an outlet for trade with the southerncountries. <strong>Israel</strong> is a bridge between three cont<strong>in</strong>ents – (Europe, Asia and Africa). – And nations,seek<strong>in</strong>g to control the world, needs the resources of untapped and undeveloped wealth, which lie<strong>in</strong> <strong>Israel</strong>, mak<strong>in</strong>g her the most strategic and desired piece of real estate <strong>in</strong> the entire world.Presently, it would seem that Russia’s policy is to let others do thefront<strong>in</strong>g of conflict while she merely stirs up trouble, lett<strong>in</strong>g others dothe fight<strong>in</strong>g, plann<strong>in</strong>g to swoop <strong>in</strong> at the end and reap the harvest.It was to Canaan that God called Abraham when He <strong>com</strong>manded him to leave hisfather’s house. Genesis 12:1-3 tells us, “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out ofthy country, and from thy k<strong>in</strong>dred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thoushalt be a bless<strong>in</strong>g: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and <strong>in</strong>thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”Although the land of Canaan was not specifically named by God <strong>in</strong> this promise,Abraham knew this was where the Lord wanted him to go for verse 5 declares that, “And Abramtook Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered,
