No fact in Scripture is more established than the fact that the land known as “Palestine”belongs to Israel. However, God told Israel that if she disobeyed Him they would be dispersed throughoutthe whole earth.Deuteronomy 28:64-66, “And the LORD shall scatter thee amongall people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; andthere thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thyfathers have known, even wood and stone. And among thesenations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foothave rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: And thy life shall hang indoubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalthave none assurance of thy life.”God’s Word is faithful in relating Israel’s shortcomings. God does not fail to expose thesins of even her greatest heroes and to reveal Israel’s dark past. However, while other nations ofthe world wallowed in the orgies of sin and gross darkness, Israel still remains the onlychampion of Jehovah. Israel was not perfect before God and, for this, God chastised her manytimes. Yet, in the dark hours of universal idolatry, it was the heroes of Israel who faced thelion’s dean and the fiery furnaces and, in comparison o the depraved nations that surroundedIsrael, she was a heavenly people. But Israel did disobey God’s Word and we read in Ezekiel 36:17-19,“Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their waywas before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they hadshed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they hadpolluted it: And I scattered them among the heathen, and theywere dispersed through the countries: according to their way andaccording to their doings I judged them.”Jesus prophesied, “And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then knowthat the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; andlet them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enterthereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for thereshall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge ofthe sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden downof the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled” (Luke 21:20-24).History records the fulfillment of this prophecy when, in 70 A.D., Titus and his Romanhordes destroyed Israel’s great Temple, burned the city and scattered the inhabitants. Israel was, indeed, “scattered to the four corners of the earth,” just as God had prophesied throughout theOld Testament.
