Joel 3:2, “I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley ofJehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for My people and for My heritage Israel, whomthey have scattered among the nations, and parted My land.”Jeremiah 25:29-35, “For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by My name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a swordupon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts. Therefore prophesy thou againstthem all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter His voicefrom His holy habitation; He shall mightily roar upon His habitation; He shall give a shout, asthey that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. A noise shall come even to theends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, He will plead with allflesh; He will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD. Thus saith the LORD ofhosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised upfrom the coasts of the earth. And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of theearth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, norburied; they shall be dung upon the ground. Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallowyourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of yourdispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel. And the shepherds shallhave no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.”Revelation 16:14, “For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forthunto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great dayof God Almighty.” (Verse 16) “And He gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrewtongue Armageddon.”Zechariah 12:3, “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for allpeople: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of theearth be gathered together against it.”Note, that God predicts that Jerusalem will be the focal point of this world-wide struggle. It seems that, after the collapse of the “northern confederacy,” the Revived Roman Empire willbe able to extend its authority over all the nations of the world.Remember that Daniel 9:27 prophesies, “He (the Antichrist) will confirm a covenant withmany (Jews) for one ‘seven’ (7 years). In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrificeand offerings. And on a wing of the Temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”The Antichrist, the World Dictator, makes a covenant of peace with Israel for seven yearshowever, when Israel refuses to worship the image of the Antichrist he breaks the covenant withthem after three and one-half years and begins his terrible persecution of the Jews.In one last furious, demon-inspired, effort, the Antichrist hurls his armies againstJerusalem, where the armed might of all the nations of the world gather in the plains of Megiddofor the Battle of Armageddon.Joel 3:9-14 describes it by saying, “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat yourplowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about:thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. Let the heathen be wakened, and comeup to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. Put yein the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow;for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of theLORD is near in the valley of decision.”Zechariah 14:2 prophecies, “For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle;and the city shall be taken.”God will do a final work in segregating a “godly remnant” from the last apostateelements of the nation of Israel. And, after the destruction of many of the Jews n Israel, theremainder will be brought through the fire as pure gold, purified and prepared for leadership inChrist’s glorious kingdom that is about to be establish.Zechariah 13:8-9 describes it, “And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith theLORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I willbring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try themas gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: andthey shall say, The LORD is my God.”John says in Revelation 19:11-18, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse;and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge andmake war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had aname written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped inblood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followedhim upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth asharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron:and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on hisvesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. And I sawan angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly inthe midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and theflesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, bothsmall and great.”Lesson SevenThe Truth of Israel’s HistoryIn my studies on Israel I came across some interesting facts that I was not aware ofbefore. In fact, in all my associations with others discussing Israel’s past history and what Bibleprophecy has to say about her future, many of these facts were either unfamiliar, or just nevermentioned. However, to give a handle on “Israel and Bible Prophecy” I would like to sharesome of my findings here. But, first I would like to review some Biblical concepts. We have, in earlier lessons, discussed the unconditional covenants that God made withIsrael, that are foundational for understanding Israel’s importance in the prophetic future.
