When Jesus Christ return to earth “<strong>in</strong> power and great glory” to destroy <strong>Israel</strong>’s enemiesand to establish His earthly K<strong>in</strong>gdom, it is upon the Mount of Olives that he feet will stand(Zechariah 4:14). He will then br<strong>in</strong>g peace, justice and prosperity to this weary world.The city from which the Lord will rule will be Jerusalem, Isaiah tells us,“And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up tothe mounta<strong>in</strong> of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; andHe will teach us of His ways, and we will walk <strong>in</strong> His paths: forout of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD fromJerusalem. And He shall judge among the nations, and shallrebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords <strong>in</strong>toplowshares, and their spears <strong>in</strong>to prun<strong>in</strong>ghooks: nation shall notlift up sword aga<strong>in</strong>st nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Isaiah 2:3-4).The land of Canaan, its capital city, Jerusalem, and the nation of <strong>Israel</strong> are <strong>in</strong>deedprecious <strong>in</strong> God’s sight. In fact, the Lord has given both a promise and a warn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> relation to<strong>Israel</strong>. God said,“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseththee: and <strong>in</strong> thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”(Genesis 12:3).The prophet Zechariah, declar<strong>in</strong>g God’s love for the historic people of <strong>Israel</strong> and theirbeloved city of Jerusalem, said, “Whoever touches you touches the apple of His (God’s) eye.”Godly people the world over should “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6).When we do so, we are <strong>in</strong> reality pray<strong>in</strong>g for out Lord’s return s<strong>in</strong>ce Jerusalem and the worldwill never experience true peace until Jesus Christ returns aga<strong>in</strong> as Pr<strong>in</strong>ce of peace.“Even so, <strong>com</strong>e, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).Lesson ThreeThe Rightful Heirs of the Land of <strong>Israel</strong>The descendants Abraham were given the land of Canaan <strong>in</strong> a free, unconditional andunchangeable grant from God. This can be very clearly seen <strong>in</strong> verses 7 and 8 of Genesis 17,where God declares,“And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thyseed after thee <strong>in</strong> their generations for an everlast<strong>in</strong>g covenant, tobe a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give untothee, and to thy seed after thee, the land where<strong>in</strong> thou art astranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlast<strong>in</strong>g possession;and I will be their God.”
