Attach each side nailingstrip using 3 screws.FLUEINGINTRODUCTIONThe P36D uses the "balanced flue" technologyCo Axial system. The inner liner fl ues productsof combustion to the outside while the outerliner draws outside combustion air into thecombustion chamber thereby eliminating theneed to use heated room air for combustion andlosing warm room air up the chimney.Note:These flue pipes must not beconnected to any other appliance. The gas appliance and fl ue system must befl ued directly to the outside of the building, and never be attached to a chimney serving aseparate solid fuel or gas burning appliance. Each Co Axial Flue gas appliance must useit's own separate fl ue system. Common fl uesystems are prohibited.Regency ® P36D Gas Log Fireplace 9

INSTALLATIONHORIZONTALTERMINATIONSInstall the flue system according to themanufacturer's instructions included withthe components.1) Set the unit in its desired location. Checkto determine if wall studs or roof raftersare in the way when the fl ueing system isattached. If this is the case, you may wantto adjust the location of the unit. Rough inthe gas preferably on the right side of theunit and the electrical (junction block is onthe left side) on the left.2) Co Axial Flue pipe and fi ttings are designedwith special twist-lock connections toconnect the fl ueing system to the appliancefl ue outlet. A twist-lock appliance adaptoris an available option that must be used inconjunction with the Simpson Dura-Vent CoAxial Flue GS system.3) Put a bead of silicone inside the outersection of the adapter and a bead of StoveMate on the inner collar. Slip the adapterover the existing inner and outer fl ue collarand fasten to the outer collar only with the3 supplied screws (drilling pilot holes willmake this easier). Level the fi replace andfasten it to the framing using nails or screwsthrough the nailing strips.4) Assemble the desired combination of pipeand elbows to the appliance adaptor andtwist-lock for a solid connection.Note:a) Twist-lock procedure: Four indentations, located on the female ends of pipes andfi ttings, are designed to slide straightonto the male ends of adjacent pipesand fi ttings, by orienting the four pipeindentations so they match and slidein to the four entry slots on the maleends, Diagram 1. Push the pipe sectionscompletely together, then twist-lockone section clockwise approximatelyone-quarter turn, until the two sectionsare fully locked. The female locking lugswill not be visible from the outside, onthe Black Pipe or fi ttings. They may belocated by examining the inside of thefemale ends.Diagram 1Note: Apply sealant "Mill-Pac" to inner pipeand high temperature silicone sealantto outer pipe on everytwist-lock joint.b) Horizontal runs of flue must be supportedevery three feet. Wall straps are availablefor this purpose.5) Mark the wall for a 254mm x 254mm squarehole. The center of the square hole shouldline up with the centerline of the horizontalpipe. Cut and frame the 10 inch squarehole in the exterior wall where the fl ue willbe terminated. If the wall being penetratedis constructed of non-combustible material,i.e. masonry block or concrete, a 7"(178mm)dia. (7-1/2"(191mm) dia. for fl ex) hole isDiagram 2flue adaptor.Note:acceptable.Note: WithDura-Vent,the minimumheight isachieved byinstalling a90 o elbowdirectly to thea) The horizontal run of fl ue must be level,or have a 1/4 inch rise for every 1 footof run towards the termination. Neverallow the fl ue to run downward. Thiscould cause high temperatures and maypresent the possibility of a fi re.b) The location of the horizontal fluetermination on an exterior wall must meetall local and national building codes, and must not be blocked or obstructed. For External Flue Terminal Locations, see diagram in section "Exterior FlueTermination Locations."6) The arrow on the flue cap shouldbe pointing up. Insure that the 1-1/2"clearances to combustible materials aremaintained. Install the termination cap, diagram 5.The four wood screws provided shouldbe replaced with appropriate fasteners forstucco, brick, concrete, or other types ofsidings.Note: If installing termination on a sidingcovered wall, a vinyl siding standoffor furring strips must be used toensure that the termination is notrecessed into the siding.7) Before connecting the horizontal run offl ue pipe to the fl ue termination, slide theWall Thimble (Part # 620-926) over the fl uepipe.Diagram 38) Slide the appliance and fl ue assemblytowards the wall carefully inserting thefl ue pipe into the fl ue cap assembly. It isimportant that the fl ue pipe extends intothe fl ue cap suffi cient distance so as toresult in a minimum pipe overlap of 1-1/4inches. Secure the connection between thefl ue pipe and the fl ue cap by attaching thetwo sheet metal strips extending from thefl ue cap assembly into the outer wall of thefl ue pipe. Use the two sheet metal screwsprovided to connect the strips to the pipesection. See Diagram 4.9) Install wall thimble in the center of the10" square and attach with wood screws(Diagram 5).Diagram 4Diagram 5Regency ® P36D Gas Log Fireplace 17

INSTALLATIONVERTICALTERMINATIONS1) Maintain the 1-1/4"clearances (air spaces)to combustibles whenpassing through ceilings, walls, roofs, enclosures, attic rafter, or other nearbycombustible surfaces.Do not pack air spaceswith insulation. Checksection "Simpson DuraventFlueing" for themaximum vertical rise ofthe fl ueing system and themaximum horizontal offsetlimitations.Diagram 12) Set the gas appliance in its desired location.Drop a plumb bob down from the ceiling to theposition of the appliance fl ue exit, and markthe location where the fl ue will penetratethe ceiling. Drilla small hole athis point. Next, drop a plumbbob from theroof to the holepreviously drilledin the ceiling, and mark thespot wherethe flue willpenetrate theroof. Determineif ceiling joists, roof rafters orother framingDiagram 2will obstruct the fl ueing system. Youmay wish to relocate the appliance or tooffset, as shown in Diagram 2 to avoid cuttingload bearing members.Note: Apply sealant "Mill-Pac" to innerpipe and high temperature siliconesealant to outer pipe on every twistlockjoint.Diagram 34) Assemble the desired lengths of pipe andelbows. To ensure that the paint isproperly cured, it is recommended that you burnyour fi replace for at least four (4) hours the fi rsttime you use it with the fan on.When first operated, the unit will release an odourcaused by the curing of the paint, the burningoff of any oils remaining from manufacturing.Smoke detectors in the house may go off atthis time. Open a few windows to ventilate theroom for a couple of hours. The glass panel may require cleaning after theunit has cooled down.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THEGLASS WHILE IT IS HOT.Note: When the glass is cold and theappliance is lit, it may causecondensation and fog the glass. This condensation is normal andwill disappear in a few minutes asthe glass heats up.DO NOT BURN THE APPLIANCEWITHOUT THE GLASS FRONT INPLACE.During the first few fires, a white filmmay develop on the glass front as partof the curing process. The glass shouldbe cleaned or the film will bake on andbecome very difficult to remove. Use anon-abrasive cleaner and NEVER cleanthe glass while it is hot.NORMAL OPERATINGSOUNDS OF GASAPPLIANCESIt is possible that you will hear some soundsfrom your gas appliance. This is perfectly normaldue to the fact that there are various gaugesand types of steel used within your appliance.Listed below are some examples. All are normaloperating sounds and should not be consideredas defects in your appliance.Blower:Regency ® gas appliances use high tech blowersto push heated air farther into the room. It is notunusual for the fan to make a "whirring" soundwhen ON. This sound will increase or decreasein volume depending on the speed setting ofyour fan speed control.Burner Tray:The burner tray is positioned directly under theburner tube(s) and logs and is made of a differentgauge material from the rest of the fi rebox andbody. Therefore, the varying thicknesses of steelwill expand and contract at slightly differentrates which can cause "ticking" and "cracking"sounds. You should also be aware that as thereare temperature changes within the unit thesesounds will likely re-occur. Again, this is normalfor steel fi reboxes.Blower Thermodisc:When this thermally activated switch turns ONit will create a small "clicking" sound. This is theswitch contacts closing and is normal.Pilot Flame:While the pilot fl ame is on it can make a veryslight "whisper" sound.Gas Control Valve:As the gas control valve turns ON and OFF, adull clicking sound may be audible, this is normaloperation of a gas regulator or valve.Unit Body/Firebox:Different types and thicknesses of steel willexpand and contract at different rates resultingin some "cracking" and "ticking" sounds will beheard throughout the cycling process.Gas InletRegency ® P36D Gas Log Fireplace 31
