North RegionThe North Region is responsible for overseeing 209 parks and playgrounds for diverse communities fromRogers <strong>Park</strong> to Norwood <strong>Park</strong> as well as from North Ave Beach to the Belmont/Cragin neighborhood.The 79 staffed locations offer seasonal sports programming and special events, non-traditional sports,ceramics and lapidary, skate parks and interactive water playgrounds, and Trails of Terror and Dinnerwith Santa. The North Region also features a multitude of athletic activities for <strong>Chicago</strong>ans - with its 23pools, four water playgrounds, miles of sandy beaches and three harbors along the lakefront, threeoutdoor ice skating rinks, four gymnastics centers, five boxing centers, Thillens Baseball Stadium,numerous artificial soccer fields, nearly 200 baseball fields, two Wellness Centers, fitness centers, andthe <strong>District</strong>’s only indoor tennis/ice skating facility at McFetridge Sports Center. The newest uniquerecreational opportunity is at Clark <strong>Park</strong>, where <strong>Chicago</strong>’s first dirt bike park – known as “The Garden” islocated. Additional unique recreational, nature and cultural programming can be found at Kilbourn<strong>Park</strong>'s Organic Greenhouse where the first-ever public fruit tree orchard in a major metropolitan city isplanted, Indian Boundary Zoo, North <strong>Park</strong> Village Nature Center, Lincoln <strong>Park</strong> Cultural Center, Theatreon the Lake, the Lincoln <strong>Park</strong> Zoo, Lincoln <strong>Park</strong> Conservatory and nature areas located throughout thenorth side. In addition golfers can check out the links at Robert A. The Awards program honors Outstanding Achievements in theDeaf Illinois Community.In a new partnership with the Greater Food Depository and UIC Neighborhood Initiative we hosted10 Bring the Family to the Table at our two Wellness Centers, Broadway Armory and Pottawattomie<strong>Park</strong>. The evening consisted of a nutritionally balanced meal, cooking demo, fun and games, plus itwas all free. More than 1,000 individuals enjoyed the Bring the Family to the Table events.Held regional Teen basketball league. 16 north region parks participated with a total of 200 teensplaying weekly games at Brands, Loyola, and Warren <strong>Park</strong>s.Independence <strong>Park</strong> Special Recreation Program was honored with the Spirit Award at the AnnualTrack & Field opening Ceremony at Soldier Field.Expanded our partnership with Oz <strong>Park</strong> Baseball Assoc. to include Jonquil <strong>Park</strong>. This expansionallows us to service an additional 500 youth – bring the total of community youth served to 1,200.73
