Two Tons10 <strong>Docker</strong> July 2005 fremantlefc.com.auFor some, superstition tells thatthe number 13 is unlucky, for others it is quite simplythe next number after 12, a baker’s dozen.For inspirational <strong>Fremantle</strong> Captain Peter Bellthe number 13 now has a very special meaning.In round 13, ironically against his old side theKangaroos, Peter became only the 22nd playerin the history of the game to play 100 AFLgames for two clubs. The last player to achieve thisunique milestone was Gavin Wanganeen in 2002.The full list represents a who’s who of the AFL– see table on page 13.Now 29 and a veteran of 11 AFL seasons, Peter’sstory has been told many times and his deeds onthe field continue to reinforce what a championplayer he has become since he began his career at<strong>Fremantle</strong> as the first player signed by the club whenit entered the AFL in 1995. Peter played in the first<strong>Fremantle</strong> game in the AFL against Richmond atthe MCG and holds the distinction of having scoredtwo goals with his first two kicks in the AFL.After a first season tally of only two games,Peter’s stay at <strong>Fremantle</strong> was short-lived, movingon at the end of 1995 to North Melbourne (theKangaroos) where he went on to play 123 games,including the 1996 and 1999 premiership sides. Inan impressive career at the Kangaroos, Peter wasan AFL Rising Star nominee in 1996, runner-up inthe Kangaroos Best and Fairest in 1997, a memberof the Kangaroos pre-season premiership side in1998 and was the winner of the Graham Mossas best-on-ground in the State of Origin matchagainst South Australia the same year, the team wascaptained by current <strong>Fremantle</strong> Assistant CoachChris Waterman.In his second premiership year at the Kangaroosin 1999, Peter won his first All Australian selectionand played in the International Rules Series thatyear. In 2000 he was honoured as the KangaroosBest and Fairest winner.TwoTonsAfter five years with the Kangaroos, Peterreturned home to where it all began at <strong>Fremantle</strong>Oval to resume his two-game career with<strong>Fremantle</strong>. The return season of 2001 would turnout to be the low point in the club’s history, seniorcoach Damian Drum exiting mid-season andinaugural captain Ben Allan taking over for theremaining 13 games of the season that delivered thefirst of club’s two wins for the season in round 18.Despite the team’s poor performancesduring that dismal year, Peter demonstrated hehad returned as one of the premier players in
