STS is a global organisation with offices in over
20 countries. The STS worldwide staff abides
by the same rules, guidelines and procedures
set by the head office in Sweden.
In those countries with no STS office, we are
represented by the best partner organisations.
Therefore students have the guarantee to get a
high standard of service wherever they go for
their STS exchange program. An important part
of this service is the local support provided by
our dedicated and experienced staff.
aRea RepReSentative
STS is responsible for making sure that all the
students and host families have direct contact
with one person, the area representative. All
students will have the contact details of their
area representative confirmed before departure
from their home countries. This person will have
regular contact with the student and the host
family during the entire stay, to give support,
advice and assistance if needed. The student
will also get information about the school and
local area from the area representative or from
the national office.
Shortly after the student arrives, the area representative
will arrange an orientation meeting
for all the STS exchange students in the
area. Host families are required to attend so
they can meet other host families and the field
support.
If the area representative is unable to help the
student, he or she should contact the regional
coordinator. All the students will get the information
on who their regional coordinator is.
They may have had some contact with their
regional coordinator either at the airport or at
the students’ orientation meeting.
The duties of a regional coordinator includes:
training all area representatives, supporting and
overseeing the work of all field staff, problem
solving, confirming placements, and reviewing
paperwork submitted by the area representative.
This person works very closely to the national
office.
If the student needs further assistance, the national
office in the host country should be contacted
during office hours. If the call is an emergency
and after hours, the student should use
the emergency numbers given upon arrival.
Natural parents should only contact the office
in the home country if they have questions.
