Innovative Curriculum forCategorical <strong>Internal</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong>Our innovative curriculum creates block time,with a four-week block for inpatient medicinefollowed by a two-week ambulatory block.This dynamic new design allows residents tofocus completely on their rotations. Department of <strong>Medicine</strong> ScholarlyActivities and Original ResearchAll categorical internal medicine, medicine/pediatrics, and emergencymedicine/internal medicine residents are required to complete at least onescholarly activity during their residency. These scholarly activities place theclinical information into the context of population health and the overallhealth system. Residents will also gain writing and presentation skills,work closely with one or more faculty mentors, search and understandthe medical literature, and gain skills in performance improvement andevaluation. Residents who complete scholarly activities are considered morecompetitive candidates for fellowship and other career opportunities.Types of activities that qualify tocomplete the scholarly activityrequirement include:• Writing and presenting anabstract or poster to a regional ornational conference.• Presenting research findings at aregional or national meeting.• Publishing in peer-reviewedpublications.• Writing book chapters,reviewing articles or similarnon-peer-reviewed publications.• Presenting a ClinicopathologicalConference (CPC) at MedicalGrand Rounds.• Performing original research.Fellowship PlacementOur residents match with thenation’s most prestigious institutions.More than one-third of ourinternal medicine residents pursuefellowships in sub-specialties.<strong>Christiana</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Systemoffers fellowships in cardiovasculardisease, interventional cardiology,cardiovascular research, nephrologyand sports medicine.
