System description1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION1.1 IntroductionThe Simrad SP90 sonar is a long range omnidirectional lowfrequency sonar, designed for medium and large sized fishingvessels, preferably for purse seiners. The standard frequency is 26kHz (triple and multiple frequencies as option), and the beam canbe electronically tilted from +10 to –60 degrees.Great emphasis has been placed on giving the best possiblepresentations on a high resolution colour display. The processorunit is controlled by Microsoft’s Windows 2000® operatingsystem, which result in a flexible choice of display modes for alarge range of user applications. The signal processing and beamforming is performed in a fastdigital signal processing system using the full dynamic range of thesignals. In addition to the traditional single frequency transceiversystem, the SP90 sonar contains an advanced frequency modulatedfilter system (FM).The cylindrical multi-element transducer allows theomni-directional sonar beam to be tilted electronically down to -60degrees. This allows you to automatically track schools of fish, andto observe the whole water volume around the vessel. An optionalstabilization system is available for electronic pitch and rollcompensation. This chapter covers the following subjects:→ System overview, page 2.→ Options, page 5.→ Functional description, page 7.→ Peripheral equipment, page 11.Important notice:Windows, Windows NT and Windows 2000 are either registeredtrademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the UnitedStates and/or other countries.850-164511 / B1
