This has especially been the case with Council staff who have seenother car sharing sites used by local authorities that only request minimal information.10.38 One female employee of the Council said that she felt safer travelling by car with a colleaguethan she does travelling alone.10.39 <strong>The</strong>re is some reluctance amongst staff at the Council to register for the scheme. <strong>The</strong>introduction of the scheme nonetheless appears to have stimulated discussion in theworkplace <strong>and</strong> may have increased the amount of informal car sharing taking place at theCouncil. <strong>The</strong> lack of incentives to car sharers means that it is less likely that informal carsharing arrangements will be registered, as there are no benefits to be gained fromregistration.Other General Issues10.40 One user of the scheme would like to see more national promotion of car sharing <strong>and</strong> anincreased use of high occupancy vehicle lanes to encourage car sharing.10.41 <strong>The</strong> NTT sees a need to develop marketing options that can promote car sharing in areaslike Halton where the issues are transport costs <strong>and</strong> lack of access, rather than congestion<strong>and</strong> lack of car parking space.Final V1.1, Dec. 2004 - 68 -
