PHOTO BDrive the ball down intothe barrel with one sharpblow. Never attempt tostart the ball with theramrod. Used improperlythe ramrod will break andpossibly injure your hand.Using the ramrod, push the ball the remainder of the way down the barreluntil it contacts the powder charge. Seat the ball firmly against the powdercharge but do not pound on it. Pounding on the ramrod will deform theball. A deformed ball will not shoot accurately. Load and seat each ball withexactly the same pressure, shot after shot. With successive shots, fouling inthe bore may build up in sufficient quantity to make loading more difficult,or even impossible. When using a petroleum based lubricant, thebuildup will be much more apparent, and cleaning between shots will benecessary. When using an all-natural lubricant such as T/C Natural Lube1000+ in keeping with the “all natural approach, “ this buildup will be farless, and cleaning between shots will not be necessary. BUT, if for any reasonyou experience progressively more difficult loading due to buildup offouling, you must clean the bore, or safe loading will become impossible.See the section on “Cleaning” and the section on “Pulling a Charge.”PHOTO CUse the ramrod to push theball down the barrel and toseat it against the charge.Once the ball has been loaded, it is necessary to carefully mark yourramrod at the muzzle. A reference mark on the ramrod will allow you to ensurethat all the future projectiles are seated to the same depth (see Photo“D”).31
