<strong>Home</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> General RulesAWARDSEach division with at least three exhibitors will have a purpleand gold Grand Champion rosette and prize awarded to themost outstanding entry of that division. A lavender and whiteReserve Champion rosette will also be given in each qualifyingdivision. There may be one Blue, one Red and one Whiteribbon given in each class. Honorable Mention ribbons may beawarded. Only Purple, Lavender, Blue, Red and Award of Meritribbons will receive money or prize premiums. Premiumchecks will be mailed late-October.ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION ON PLACINGS OR AWARDSWILL BE ANNOUNCED PRIOR TO FAIR’S OPENING.DISPLAYSAll award-winning entries will be displayed, and every effortwill be made to display all other entries. However, wereserve the right to withhold non-award winning entriesfrom display. This right will be exercised ONLY if there is notsufficient space to display said entry in a safe and attractivemanner. Any item not displayed will be held in a securestorage area of the <strong>Home</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Department and the exhibitorwill be notified prior to the <strong>Fair</strong> opening.JUDGINGJudges are selected from professionals or highly accreditedamateur artists working within their field of expertise. Paid <strong>Fair</strong> employees orvolunteers who judge any show or contest outside thedepartment they work for must be pre-approved by theirdepartment supervisor. <strong>Fair</strong> exhibitors, including exhibitingemployees, are not eligible to judge in their entry divisions.RECEIVING AND RETURNYou may drive to the <strong>Home</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Department through theService Gate at 5th St SW (off of 15th Ave SW) or through theGold Gate at 9th Ave SW and Meridian St SW on entry days.Please refer to the Entry and Return Schedule on page 3 forreceiving and return dates and times.<strong>Home</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Entries - Rules1. Entry registration must be made online for all Divisionsby entry deadline. See page 1 for online entry step-bystepinstructions and page 2 for entry schedule.2. No entry fee will be charged.3. All articles must be the handwork of the exhibitor. Theymust be finished within the last two years. No article canbe exhibited a second year. NO SOILED OR OBVIOUSLYUSED ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.4. ALL ITEMS WILL BE PLACED IN THE MOST SUITABLECLASS. Each exhibitor shall be limited to ONE ENTRY PERCLASS; as to enter more would, in effect, be competingagainst oneself, i.e., one crocheted afghan, onecrocheted pillow, etc. No pairs or sets except wherespecified. Entries may be reclassified by staff or judges.5. The “OTHER” class will only be used if the item does notfit within any other class in a division.6. All awards need not necessarily be awarded in eachclass at the discretion of the judge.7. The <strong>Home</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Department is for amateurs to competeand exhibit their work. Anyone grossing more than$2000 per year from the sale of <strong>Home</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>-relatedproducts, or engaging in teaching a craft on a regularand structured class schedule, is considered aprofessional by the Washington State <strong>Fair</strong> and is noteligible to enter in the <strong>Home</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Department, exceptfor the professional/master sections in the quilting andbasketry divisions. A quilt that is made by an amateurand a professional will go into the Amateur/Professional Division.Thirteen classes are offered for professional/masterquilters, and five classes for professional/master basketmakers. They will compete ONLY with one another, andnot with participants of amateur status.Master crafts persons are exhibitors who have won theseamateur division championships once. Each division musthave at least three exhibitors competing for a GrandChampionship to be awarded. See AWARDS at left.8. CRAFT PERSONS MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE,except where noted. No separate designations or discriminationscan be made. We have no provision for children’sentries at this time, and feel that it is unfair to both thechild and the judge to ask them to compete with adults.Children 6 through 15 are encouraged to enter theCreative Kids Exhibit at the Spring <strong>Fair</strong> in April.
