and older compete for the ultimate prize. Laugh with us as we bring
comedians back to the Centennial for a hilarious performance on
July 17. Enjoy the end of summer as we close out with Variety Night
at the Centennial on August 28.
Summer will also be cooking……literally at our Officers’ Club and
the Centennial. Enjoy the Army’s Birthday Brunch June 14 at the
O’Club followed by a scrumptious Father’s Day Brunch on June 21
summer. Ask about Stable Calls and Brass Bartending. And finally,
Fiesta Fridays return again on Aug. 14 from 4:30 p.m. to close the
Centennial Pub & Patio. Come enjoy margaritas and delicious food,
Steak Night at the Officers’ Club occurs the every Thursday of every month.
This event has been ongoing for quite some time and draws a nice crowd. The
night is filled with music, laughter, and quiet tables nestled together filled with
people. If you were ever a meat and potatoes kind of a person, this is the night
for you as there are plenty of different kinds of steaks, a loaded baked potato,
unlimited salad bar, dessert items and even a glass of wine if you would like one.
The tables are generally set for two or four people, but standing out in the back
of the room is a large round table with a beautiful linens reserved for a group.
Steak Night offers the kind of atmosphere for friends and family to get together
in a wonderful location for a club to meet and enjoy dinner together. The table
in the back of the room belongs to the Cigar Smokers Club. It is not an official
club, but one formed out of things in common. I met this group to find out
what draws them to this location. I sat down to talk to the leader of the club,
a wonderful man who loves the building that we are sitting in, the comfortable
atmosphere, the food and - of course - the men sitting around the table with
him.
The people at the table are talking and eating, sharing old war stories and
relaxing while enjoying their dinner together. As the evening comes to a close,
the leader of the table invites me outside to sit with them. The Officers’ Club
has opened up their patio to them so that they can mingle together outside and
O’Club
The O’Club:
A Place for Friends
of course enjoy a cigar after dinner. The men explain to me that the group is
neither about smoking nor about eating dinner. It is about enjoying something
such as the Officers’ Club, a legacy that is slowly dying away. The clubs are going
away but the camaraderie of being with individuals who you can relate to is still
there. They share stories, remember the old times, talk about being injured
in war, about being deployed, about funny stories and silly stories, and they all
decompress together.
One gentleman told me that after a very intense battle while he was deployed,
his unit came together to unwind and they all smoked a cigar and even Soldiers
that didn’t smoke came along just to be a part of something. There is no rank
in this group. They are all Soldiers, have a story to share, and just need a place
to come to feel relaxed and be able to gather together. Throughout most of
the night you will often hear “remember the times” as they talk about how the
military, clubs and soldiers are changing. As changes occur with the Officers’
Club, the military and events, remember that we still provide a great event filled
with food, familiar faces, a comfortable atmosphere, and possibly even a spot
for your club to meet. The Cigar Smokers Club will continue to meet and use
the facilities that Fort Bliss has to offer, and will always come out for meat and
potatoes! You can remember the times, too, by coming out for Steak Night the
every Thursday night of every month.
2009 Murder Mystery: “Murder on the Trail”
Thirty members of the Waiting Families Support Program, an initiative of Army Community Service, spent the night of April 17 as suspects
in a western “whodunit.”
The families were the recipients of 30 tickets to “Murder on the Trail,” the final Murder Mystery Dinner at the Fort Bliss
Officers’ Club.
“We donated the tickets because we always try to help the community,” said Tabitha Bohn, the O’Club’s Business
Manager.
“It was a wonderful event and all the families were so appreciative of the opportunity to join in on the fun at no cost to
them,” said Cher Poehlein, the Relocation Readiness Manager at ACS. “I was there, too, and it was one of the coolest
things I’ve ever seen.”
“The reaction from the crowd was very positive,” Bohn said. “They all enjoyed the programming, as it was the last Murder
Mystery Dinner at the O’Club.”
In addition to participation in events like the Murder Mystery Dinner, membership in the Waiting Families Support Program
has other aspects that benefit Waiting Families, including dinner, bowling activities and more. A Waiting Family is defined as
anybody who’s geographically separated from their service member for 30 days or longer due to deployment, TDY or other
circumstances.
Fort Bliss Calendar page
“As long as the family is geographically separated from their Soldier, they qualify,” Poehlein said.
For more information about the Waiting Families Support Program or to register as a Waiting Family, call Cher Poehlein at
568-1132. The next Murder Mystery will be held at its new location, The Centennial.
library
Summer is almost here, and this year, in addition to our long-time
summer reading program for children, the Mickelsen Community Library
is proud to announce a new summer reading program for teens between
the ages of 13 and 19.
The theme for the teen program is “Express Yourself @ Your Library.”
Everyone knows that teens love to express themselves in any number
of ways; at the library they can discover just how many ways there are
to express themselves. Whether it’s through reading about music, art,
sports, or poetry, we can help them find out just how great freedom of
expression can be. Registration for the program begins Saturday, May
16. Reading will start Tuesday, June 16 and will end on Saturday, July 11.
The top three winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on
Saturday, July 18 at 2 p.m. To keep teens reading throughout the month,
each reader will be given one point for every 50 pages read, and he or
she will receive a prize for every four points. In order to get recognition
for those 50 pages, however, the teens will be required to write a short,
one- or two-sentence summary about what they have read. The teens
with the most points at the end of the program will be the winners. We
will be giving prizes to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place readers which will be
a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble for 1st place, a $35 gift card for 2nd,
and a $25 gift card for 3rd place. Join us for this pilot program at your
Post library and discover how much fun you can have expressing yourself
@ your library.
In addition to our new teen program, we will, of course, conduct
our long-standing summer reading program for children between
the ages of 2 and 12. Have your kids become one of the Mickelsen
Community Library’s “Most Wanted” when you sign them up for our
“Wanted: Readers” summer reading program. Getting caught reading
will get your child’s picture up on our wall among other “Wanted”
readers. Registration begins Saturday, May 16, and continues through
Saturday, July 18. Reading for the children’s program begins on Tuesday,
June 2 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 1. Each child who participates
will come to the library and check out the books he or she would like
to read, take them home, and read them at their own pace. When the
books are returned to the library, either the reader or the parent will
record the titles on a reading record kept at the library. All books read
must be age appropriate—in other words, 9-year-olds will not get credit
for reading easy books for preschoolers. Depending on the child’s age,
he or she will earn a stamp to be placed on the reading record for every
two to five books that have been read. At the end of the summer we will
Recipe for Bubbles
Just mix one part liquid dish detergent with 15 parts water - one quick way to do this is to just mix 1/4 cup
detergent with 3 3/4 cups of water. Use filtered and fairly soft water if you can. Then, take a wire coat hanger,
bend and twist it into a small loop or two, and you’re ready to go. Blowing bubbles works even better if you
have small children who love to chase them or are just learning to blow them.
Recipe for Bread Dough
1 c. flour
¼ c. salt
6 tbsp. hot tap water
Knead about 5 minutes, add food coloring as desired. Store in plastic bag and mold into ornaments.
Recipe for Children’s Clay Ornaments
2 c. baking soda
1 1/4 c. cold water
1 c. cornstarch
Mix cornstarch and soda, blending well. Add cold water and mix until smooth. Boil one minute until it looks
like mashed potatoes. Stir constantly. Cover with damp towel and allow to cool. Knead the dough and roll out.
Use cookie cutters or mold shapes by hand. Dry until hard 1 to 2 days. Paint ornaments with Tempera or water
colors. Dry and then coat with clear shellac. Press wire hanger into back before dough dries.
Operation Purple® Summer Camp
Freedom Camp is a collaborative effort designed to support
children of deployed and redeployed service members and
those who are preparing for deployment and is open to
Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard children from
any branch of Service.
Teens ages 13-18 will attend Freedom Camp 2009 at
Bonita Park Camp and Conference Center in Capitan, NM
(just outside Ruidoso) from June 29 - July 3. Youth will be
exposed to recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic
activities which will help them understand and better cope
with the effects of war, deployments, and reunification.
Freedom Camp includes lodging, meals, activities and
transportation-thanks to support from the Permian Basin
Triad Foundation and Fort Bliss in the beautiful Rocky
Mountains of south-central New Mexico on 200 acres
When you hear “Operation Purple Camp” you should think: Kids Serve Too!
The National Military Family Association’s Operation Purple Camp is a time
for having fun, making friends, and reminding military kids that they are the
Nation’s youngest heroes.
As an organization dedicated to serving military families, the National Military
Family Association recognized the need for more resources to support
military children. In 2004, the Operation Purple program was created as a
way to help military children struggling with the stresses of war.
These free, week-long, overnight camps are open to military children ages
7-17 and will be held at Lone Tree Ranch Captain, N.M., adjacent to Lincoln
National Forest. The program aims to help military kids experience carefree
fun while also learning coping skills to deal with deployment-related stress
and fostering relationships with other children who know what they are going
through. Operation Purple camp allows kids to gain confidence by learning
to be stewards of the community and of the environment.
Operation Purple summer camp activities, including hiking, horseback riding,
mountain biking, climbing, rappelling and mountain scooters take place in the
national forest. At Lone Tree, Operation Purple campers will experience
exciting activities which promote teamwork, help them overcome fears, learn
coping skills, and teach resiliency. Each activity is designed to build on one
another as the youth become more familiar with themselves and others,
learning to trust fellow campers and the staff.
camps
of pine-covered woodlands. This five day, overnight camp
offers high adventure activities including high ropes, paint
ball, climbing wall, and a mud pit.
Other activities include:
• 500-foot ZIPLINE
• Challenge Course
• 80 climbs indoor rock wall
• Indoor heated pool
• Hiking through the National Forest
• Campfire area
• Playing games of sand volleyball!
• Compete in volleyball and basketball
• The 90’x60’ MUD PIT can be used for mud volleyball, tug
of war, mud football and many more mud games
• Archery
• Paintball
• 65-foot tower with outdoor rock wall and rappel
tower
Other activities include:
• Alpine Tower (50-foot tower with 4 ropes and over 25 routes to
climb)
• 22 foot Rifle Range
• Giant 40-foot swing (We like to call it the Screamer!)
• Basketball (half court with cement floor)
• Volleyball (outdoor sand court, or indoor)
• Game room (pool table, ping pong table, and foosball table)
• Giant outdoor chess set
• Frisbee Golf
• 397-foot enclosed flume waterslide!
Since Operation Purple camp’s implementation, the National Military Family
Association has sent more than 20,000 military kids to camp for free. In 2009,
Operation Purple will host nearly 90 weeks of camp held in 62 locations in
37 states and territories. Camps are free to all participants thanks to support
from the Sierra Club and the Sierra Club Foundation.
VEHICLES
• Slow down! For each 5 mph driven over 60, it costs about 20 cents extra per
gallon of gas. Some common recommendations to do so: ease up on the gas pedal
and brake pedal, be sure your tires are inflated and your engine is running smoothly,
don’t have your car on idle for too long, and get a fuel-efficient car.
• Shop around for gas: Before you pull over and start filling up, shop around for the
cheapest place to get gas. Find the cheapest gas in your area: www.gasbuddy.com.
• Use cruise control: If you’re not going to be hitting any stop signs or traffic lights,
set your cruise control to conserve gas.
• Ride a bike, walk, carpool: Driving contributes to global warming and the
depletion of our natural resources, not to mention pollution. So the less you drive,
the better. Even if you only replace a few trips a week with a bike or walking or
carpooling, you’re doing your part to help stop global warming and save on gas
money at the same time.
• Do regular scheduled maintenance on your vehicles: Do not skimp on or
forget to do regular oil changes. Remember to check the air in your tires often.
These small acts can significantly lengthen the life of your car, giving you years of
use.
• Avoid buying a new car: When you eventually buy a car, see if you can make
do with a pre-owned vehicle. A new car depreciates significantly the moment you
drive it out the dealership. Pre-owned cars that are only a few years old with low
mileage are the best bargains.
• Combine errands: Run as many errands as you can in one trip to cut down on
your driving time.
AROUND THE HOUSE
save money
WAYS TO SAVE MONEY IN THESE
HARD ECONOMIC TIMES
In these tough economic times, everyone is looking for ways to save money. Now more than ever, it’s more important to make
every penny count. When tough times hit, it’s hard to know where you need to tighten your belt, but these tips on saving money
can help you get started.
• Turn off unused electronics: Even when turned off, electronics like cell phone
chargers, DVD players and televisions spew 18 million tons of CO2 into the
atmosphere annually. By unplugging them, a family can save up to $256 annually.
• Thermostat: Just by using a programmable thermostat, you can save about $100
a year in energy costs
• Do the dishes: Use reusable dishes for your meals instead of paper plates and cups.
• Run full loads of clothes and dishes. Most of the energy used by dishwashers
is to heat a set amount of water, so running smaller loads wastes both energy and
water. Air dry dishes for added energy savings.
• Change washing machine settings: Heating water uses energy and costs money.
Wash your clothes in warm or cold water instead of hot.
• Shade your windows: Close shades, blinds or drapes during the day to keep light
and heat from coming in through the windows. Direct sunlight will heat your home
and cause the AC to work harder. Alternately, uncovering windows to let sun in
could be helpful for heating in the winter.
• Use compact fluorescent bulbs: If every U.S. household replaced one traditional
light bulb with a compact fluorescent one, people would save $600 million nationally
in utility bills.
• Bundle cable and internet. You can save a lot of money by bundling these
together rather than purchasing the separately.
• Use cell phones - skip the landline.
• Cancel subscriptions. We don’t get the newspaper or magazines. Almost
everything we want can be found on-line for free.
• Water your outdoor plants in the early morning, before the sun can burn off
moisture. The average lawn needs only one hour of watering a week.
• Raise your mower blades to the 3-inch setting. Shaggy grass holds moisture
longer, requiring less watering.
• Plant a tree: Strategic placement of trees and bushes around your home can
increase shade and decrease energy consumption. Try shading your air conditioning
unit as well as windows that get a lot of sun. Just three trees can save between $100
and $250 a year in heating and cooling costs.
• Quit smoking: It’s much easier said than done, but smokers, you’re burning up a
gold mine. Smoking a pack a day costs about $1,460 a year.
• Use cloth napkins, towels and diapers: Paper napkins, paper towels and
disposable diapers are easy and convenient, but cloth can be washed and used
again. Use these to save money and the environment.
• Change your air filters: A clogged or dirty air filter reduces airflow to the
heating or AC unit, causing it to work harder and use more energy. Change your
filters once a month.
• Buy used if possible. Before buying something new, ask friends or relatives, look
at garage sales or thrift shops, look on eBay or other similar sites where used
stuff is sold. You’re helping a product live longer, thus reducing the impact on the
environment, and at the same time getting it much cheaper (and sometimes just
like new).
• Take care of things. Treat things you own with respect and take good care of
them. This includes doing things such as cleaning your house, washing your cars, and
polishing shoes. Things last much longer when you take good care of them.
• Insulation. Be sure your house is properly insulated to save on heating and cooling
costs. Many people allow their house to lose a ton of energy a year by neglecting
this important step.
• Is your water set to scalding? Cool it. If you have a tank water heater, turn down
the temp a bit to save major energy. Many installers set heaters to 140 degrees, but
you can comfortably get away with closer to 120 - which is hot enough to get your
dishes clean - you’ll save 6%-10% on water-heating costs.
FINANCES
• Consolidate and pay off debt as soon as possible: If you carry any debt, focus
on consolidating it to a lower interest rate and paying it off as soon as possible.
Money paid in interest is money thrown away! Carrying a $1,000 balance at 18%
blows $180 every year on interest. Get in the habit of paying off your balance in
full each month.
• Negotiate your rate - Instead of paying an APR of 18% on your credit card, call
your issuer and ask for a lower rate. If you have good credit, your lender might
consider it.
• Shop for a new card with a lower interest rate. Watch out for introductory
offers. You don’t want to get reeled in with the promise of a 5% rate only to find
that it’ll shoot up to 18% after three or six months - unless you’re confident you
can pay off your entire balance within the introductory time frame.
• Pay your bills on time and avoid late fees: Get organized about your regular
bills. If possible, automate the payments. Making sure your credit is in tip-top shape
can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars in the long run. You’re entitled
by law to one free credit report once a year from each of the three main credit
bureaus. Go to www.annualcreditreport.com to see what lenders can see about
your credit history.
• Get checking with bling! No-interest checking is so old fashioned. Instead, give
your money more opportunity to shine with an interest-bearing online checking
account.
• Avoid ATM fees: Be aware of the ATM withdrawal fees charged by your bank. Be
sure to use only those ATM machines where your bank will not charge the fees, or
withdraw directly at your bank.
• Avoid credit cards with annual fees: Credit cards with their cash back bonuses
and reward points are a great way to save some money. Just make sure that the card
does not charge you any annual fees!
burn a lazy afternoon and evening just watching movies together.
Learn a foreign language. Log into AKO at www.us.army.mil > Self
Service>My Education> Army e-Learning Portal Page> New User Link.
Rosetta Stone Foreign Language courses are computer-based language
courses designed to increase basic foreign language skill levels.
Dig up your family tree. Take a peek at genealogy.com and see what you
can find out about your ancestors.
Volunteer your time. The volunteer program is very active through
the Army Volunteer Corps. Get started at http://www.blissmwr.com/
volunteer.
Start a book club - or find one to join. Mickelsen Community Library
is a great starting point.
Attend a free community class. Aerobics classes are available at the
physical fitness centers. If your interests lean toward crafting. Do some
amateur stargazing.
Go on a hike, a long walk or a bike ride. Go to the local hiking or walking
trails. Try the trail along the Rio Grande. For organized events contact
a local walking group such as El Paso Ridgewalkers or http://www.ava.
ENTERTAINMENT
• Get an online DVD store membership: Membership to online movie stores
like Netflix or Blockbuster Online can save you a lot of money compared to buying
DVDs or renting it from a local store.
• Dust off your library card and enjoy DVDs and books for free and you can
cut costs by $30. Plus, check out library-sponsored events, such as book readings
and clubs, film screenings and lectures.
• If you like watching movies at the theater, go before 6p.m.: Go before 6p.m.
when the tickets are a little less expensive.
• As any parent knows, a good chunk of any entertainment budget can
be eaten up just paying the babysitter. Join forces with a relative, neighbor
or friend and trade off watching each other’s kids, instead. For example, you watch
their kids one Saturday evening and they watch yours the following weekend. If
you spent $10 to $20 a week on a babysitter, you could save $560 to $1,120 per
year with your co-op.
• Buy tickets in bulk to get a 10% (or more) discount to many exhibitions and
events. Team up with friends, co-workers or relatives to get the lower rate.
• Forget the gym membership that’ll cost you almost $500 a year. Instead,
check out community centers in your area. Some may be free or charge a minimal
fee, such as $100 a year. Or buy a good pair of running shoes, or dust off that bike
and work out the old-fashioned way.
• College campuses are a trove of quality entertainment options,
from
student musical performances, film festivals, art exhibits, theater productions, dance
recitals, sporting events and more.
• There is plenty of free and cheap entertainment to be had at the hands of
Mother Nature. Go hiking, picnicking, bird watching, fishing, kayaking or camping.
You could even host a campout and hotdog roast in your backyard. The sky’s the
limit.
Free Things to Do This Summer
found, you log your visit in an included logbook, and optionally trade
one of the many contained “goodies” for one of your own. Destinations
can be found online at www.geocaching.com. Get a list of sites
locally and worldwide and go on a difficult hike or an easy adventure.
FREE places to visit and to learn more about the local history are:
• Rio Bosque Wetlands Park consists of trails and restored habitats,
riverside forests and native ecosystems historically found in the Valley
Creek Park in Northwest El Paso. Keystone Heritage Park contains a
rare desert wetland and a significant archeological site.
• Centennial Museum and Chihuahua Desert Garden at UTEP, El Paso
Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of History, El Paso Museum of Archaeology.
Places to visit (but require a fee) are:
• The Magoffin Home State Historic Site located in the heart of downtown
El Paso, Franklin Mountain State Park, New Mexico Farm and Ranch
Museum. Day trips to Guadalupe Mountains National Park – hiking
and camping; Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site – hiking and
bouldering; Balmorea State Park – swimming, camping and picnicking;
Fort Davis and McDonald Observatory, Big Bend National Park.
• In New Mexico visit White Sands National Monument and Carlsbad
Caverns National Park. The Gila National Forest is a little further afield,
but definitely worth visiting. History buffs, may wish to visit the Trinity
Site open house. Trinity Site is open to the public twice a year-on the
first Saturday in April and October.
Golfer ‘swings’ by Underwood to give clinic
More than 30 Fort Bliss golfers got into the swing of things when PGA
Tour veteran Calvin Peete dropped by George V. Underwood Golf
Complex to give a clinic Feb. 20.
The 65-year-old Peete, a 12-time winner on the PGA Tour and its most
accurate driver for 10 straight seasons, was in Las Cruces, N.M., for a
tournament and decided to stop by Underwood to show his support for
the troops.
“A gentleman called from New Mexico State University and asked if
it would be alright for Mr. Peete to come down here and maybe give a
clinic for the military,” said Bobby Kaerwer, manager of Underwood Golf
Complex. “They asked if we’d be interested in hosting him, and I said sure,
you bet, we’d love to have him.
“It was nice, because everything with the tournament was being done up
in Las Cruces, and he was the one that said, ‘I’m here, is there a military
post that’s close by so I could may do something for the service guys?’ It’s
something that came out of him,” Kaerwer continued. “He just wanted to
come down and do something for the military, and that’s why he came.”
Between 35 and 40 golfers received instruction on how to improve their
golf swing in a clinic that lasted about 30 minutes, Kaerwer said, and was
beneficial for golfers of all skill levels.
“Basically, he discussed fundamentals as far as the golf swing is concerned
– what people need to work on, having a good grip, having a good rhythm
in their swing, doing things that are mechanically correct,” he said. “He
demonstrated some skills that he felt like if the people there worked on
them, it would certainly help their game.”
and then retired to the clubhouse to spend time with the military golfers
present.
“One of the things that was nice was that,
not only did he give the clinic, but when
he was finished he came back in here and
socialized with the members, and people
got a chance to talk to him,” Kaerwer
said. “It was not just a hit-and-miss type
thing where he came in, did the clinic
and then walked away. He spent time
talking to people, a lot of pictures were
taken – it was a good event.”
The clinic was different than ones previously
hosted at the Golf Complex because it was offered
at no cost to the Soldiers or the facility, Kaerwer said.
“In the past we’ve had other people here giving clinics, … but we’ve
usually had to pay for them,” he said. “This was doubly good in that … we
didn’t have to pay for it. He wanted to do it on his own.”
Peete did not begin playing golf until he was 23 years old. He excelled at
the game, despite his late start and the challenges presented by an arm
that never properly set after being broken when he was a youngster living
in Missouri. Peete never became a power player, but was known for his
accuracy and consistent, error-free play. The most successful African-
American golfer on the PGA tour before the emergence of Tiger Woods,
Peete was inducted into the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame
in 2002.
In recognition of his years of dedication to the game he loves, Bobby Kaerwer, head golf professional and manager
at the George V. Underwood Golf Complex, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sun Country
Section of the PGA of America.
“You’re very honored to be recognized by your peers,” said Kaerwer, who has been at Underwood since 1971.
“But, you know, if you’re doing the things that you’re doing – if you’re doing it to be recognized, you’re doing it
for the wrong reasons. That’s the way I feel about it.
“I mean, I’m doing my job, and my job as a golf professional is to promote the game of golf,” he continued. “That’s
what my job is, and I have to do it for everybody. I have to do it for men, I have to do it for women, I have to do
it for kids … but it’s something I want to do.”
While just “doing his job,” Kaerwer has, according to the Sun Country Section, “arguably had as big of an impact
on golf and golf professionals as anyone in the history of the Sun Country PGA.” This impact includes having
held every office in the section, including the presidency. On the national level, Kaerwer has served on the PGA
National Education Committee and the PGA National Apprentice Committee, and was at one time a faculty
member in a program that provided instructors to assistant golf professionals who aspired to become members
of the PGA of America. He was also instrumental in getting a professional golf management program instituted
at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
Kaerwer has been elected to the El Paso Golf Hall of Fame, has won numerous national and section awards, and
is a featured teacher in Golf Magazine’s South Central Region.
“I guess that’s kind of it in a nutshell,” said Kaerwer, who graduated from Texas Tech University with bachelor’s
and master’s degrees in education and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1967. “I have been very
fortunate over the years to have some great people who have worked alongside me.
“My staff inside the golf shop has been a great staff,” he continued. “The Golden Tee has been one of those
facilities that has been well-received by everybody, also, and then I’ve got great office support in Kris [Woodson]
and Shirley [Rehrig] inside. I’ve been very, very fortunate to be surrounded by some good people.”
