Place uprights at front<strong>and</strong> rear, at right angles to ridge, spindles inserted inridge pole <strong>and</strong> passing out through peak grommets.If a fly is to be used, lay it out flat over the tent,spindles passing through grommets as in the tent.If end guys are to be run out fore <strong>and</strong> aft, or thestorm set is used (Fig. lo), slip the loops of thelong guys over the spindles.A man at each end now takes hold of an upright,<strong>and</strong> the two raise tent <strong>and</strong> fly together. Then oneor two men hold the tent in position while one ortwo others guy out the corners (beginning on thewindward side) so that the tent will st<strong>and</strong> by itself.See that the uprights st<strong>and</strong> truly perpendicular.Tie up the door <strong>and</strong> peg down the corners of thetent wall.Guy out the sides to stakes, tightening or slackeningthe ropes alternately with their slides until thetent st<strong>and</strong>s true <strong>and</strong> the guys draw evenly.Stretch the fly similarly, making sure that ittouches the tent nowhere except at the ridge. Itshould clear the eaves by at least 6 inches, preferably9 or lo inches. This requires an extra set of stakesdriven outside the wall stakes, or a single set of longstakes with double notches (army tents). In thelatter case there is not enough clearance for hotweather, unless the fly ropes are propped up oncrotched sticksON Tents).
