<strong>Awards</strong>CTC RACES CONSIDERED FOR VOLUNTEER, RUNNER OF THE YEAR, AND POINT SERIESNew Year’s 5k, Valentine’s Partners 5k, MJ8k, <strong>Charlottesville</strong> 10 Miler, Bruce Barnes Mile, 4th of July 5k, Fairview 5k,Women’s 4 Miler, Pepsi 10K, Blue Ridge Burn 5k/10k, Buck Mountain Half Marathon, Turkey Trot 5k, Men’s 4 Miler.CTC RUNNER OF THE YEAR RECIPIENTS (BY AGE GROUP)Runner of the Year is awarded to the runner with the fastest times. Only Category 1 and 2 races qualify a runner for theRunner of the Year. A runner must be a runner in good standing of the CTC at the time of the qualifying race and onlyraces run while a member count. A runner must be the first CTC member in his/her respective age group to qualify, oncequalified, all other races that the runner has completed in, both before and after qualifying, are entered into the statistics.A runner must run at least three races to be eligible. In the year that any runner ages up to another age group, the runneris eligible for the award in the age group in which he/she ran the most races. This race isrun each year around Bruce Barnes birthday, June 9th in Greenwood. Bruce Barnes was a very active member of the<strong>Track</strong> <strong>Club</strong> for over ten years and was the top racer at that time. When he was not racing he was volunteering. Mille Symbula died from ovarian cancer in1994. She was the top 40 (Masters) runner in the club at the time and was also a very active volunteer.
