The printercontains internally a Class IIIb (3b) laser that is nominally a 5 milliwattgallium arsenide laser operating in the wavelength region of 770-795nanometers. Check for correct POSTfunctioning of the base printer by observing the following process:1. All operator panel lights on momentarily2. Lights then flash on and off sequentially.3. After the lights quit flashing, the light flashes until the fuser comesup to temperature (5–20 additional seconds, depending on the initialtemperature of the fuser) and then stays on.4. If there is a problem in the printer such as a paper jam, the panel lightsindicate the problem. See “Common primary light patterns” onpage 2-4 for more information.5. However, if youdouble-click on the panel, a second pattern may appear with moredetailed information. If you double-click a third time, you usually return tothe first pattern. Not all initial level light patterns have secondary patterns;when you double-click, the pattern does not change.All service errors are indicated by all lights flashing as the primarynotification or code. The secondary code indicates an area or function whichhas the error. To prevent damage to ESD-sensitive parts,follow the instructions below in addition to all the usual precautions, such asturning off power before removing logic cards:• Keep the ESD-sensitive part in its original shipping container (a special“ESD bag”) until you are ready to install the part into the printer.• Make the least-possible movements with your body to prevent anincrease of static electricity from clothing fibers, carpets, and furniture.• Put the ESD wrist strap on your wrist. Connect the wrist band to thesystem ground point. This discharges any static electricity in your bodyto the printer.• Hold the ESD-sensitive part by its edge connector shroud (cover); donot touch its pins. If you are removing a pluggable module, use thecorrect tool.• Do not place the ESD-sensitive part on the MFP cover or on a metaltable; if you need to put down the ESD-sensitive part for any reason,first put it into its special bag.• Machine covers and metal tables are electrical grounds. They increasethe risk of damage because they make a discharge path from yourbody through the ESD-sensitive part. (Large metal objects can bedischarge paths without being grounded.)• Prevent ESD-sensitive parts from being accidentally touched by otherpersonnel.
