Martin’s Episcopal <strong>Church</strong>, is passionate aboutmentoring and about his reVision kid. Allen states“[Edward and I] began to meet once a week, and Iimmediately noticed an amazing relationshipstarting to form between us. Our bond and trustgrew even stronger with each encounter. I havehigh hopes for Edward and his future.”Sanjay Mani, a reVision mentor and member of<strong>St</strong>. Luke’s, states “I was surprised by the level ofcommitment I feel for [Derek]. It’s as if he is myown son. I imagine now that Derek will always bepart of my life. I can see myself going to his weddingsomeday.”reVision is also launching a new mentoringprogram with kids who have been held downtownin the Juvenile Detention Center and have beencertified to stand trial as adults. These are kids whoare accused of committing some of the most seriousoffenses, many of whom are likely to face yearsand years of incarceration. “Unfortunately we can’tchange the situation these kids are in,” says CharlesRotramel, Co-Executive Director for reVision.“Rather, we are called to stand with them, love them,and walk with them through this process, no matterwhat.”The reVision mentoring program launched in May2012 and to date has matched 28 mentors withreVision kids. Whatbetter time to raise awareness about anxiety – a disorderthat can impact heart health – than American HeartMonth? The four-part program includes:• A free screening for women, men and kids onFebruary 1 (walk-ins welcome; appointmentsrecommended)• A free prevention event• A free panel discussion with medical and mentalhealth experts about women and anxiety• A free support group for womenexperiencing anxietyThe second program launches in September and centersaround Attention Deficit HyperactivityDisorder (ADHD) – mostly in children but adults can bediagnosed with the disorder too.• A free screening for children and adults• A free workshop for caregivers of children withADHD• A free workshop for teachers about how to workwith students and their parents regarding ADHD• Two free support groups for caregivers and onefor children impacted by ADHDScreening appointments can be made by calling713-402-5046.
