<strong>NWP</strong> 4-<strong>01.4</strong>EMERGENCY BREAKAWAY (Paralleled by S/P phone)SIGNAL1. FIVE SHORT BLASTSOF THE SHIP’S WHISTLEREMARKSEMERGENCY BREAKAWAY. The delivery ship or the receiving ship may initiatean emergency breakaway. Once initiated, the delivery ship assumes control.The following signals shall be used for normal or emergency breakaway.2.SLOWSignalman of delivery ship waves red signal device in a semicircular arc overhead,meaning “Prepare for breakaway.” Other ship acknowledges by repeatingthe signal, meaning “Understood, I am preparing for breakaway.”Cargo Station:1. Delivery Ship — retrieve loadREDREDFuel Station:1. Delivery ship — stop pumping and secure valvesPREPARE FOREMERGENCY BREAKAWAYCargo andFuel stations:1. Clear station of all nonessential personnel3.REDAMBERSignalman, with red signal device in right hand and amber signal device in lefthand, arms extended vertically overhead, waves both signal devices verticallyin front of body until acknowledged by other ship. Initiated by receiving ship signalmeans “Detension.” Answered by delivery ship or intiated by receiving shipsignal means “Detension.” Answered by delivery ship or initiated by deliveryship, signal means “I am detensioning.”REDCargo Station:1.
