Ram Tensioner Installation (High Pressure Air Piping Circuit May Vary)tension to 1,500 psi air. (There is no easy-torememberratio in the metric system, but correspondingvalues are 6,803 kg to 10,342 kPa.)Maximum operating air pressure can be increasedup to but not exceeding the rated line pull of thewinch, as determined from the winch nameplateor technical manual. Maximum pressure is the airpressure multiplied by 10 (64.6 metric) with theram fully retracted. The ram air pressure will varyup to 400 psi (2,758 kPa) between the extendedand retracted positions, and when observing airpressure in the extended position, allowance mustbe made for the increase in pressure in theretracted position. Greater ship separations willrequire higher tensions. Older ships with receivingstations rated less than 50,000 pounds (22,675kg) test will require a reduction in tension. SeeFigure 6-1 for the amount of reduction. Lowspanwire tension may make the mating of thefueling probe into the probe receiver difficult. Airpressure is reduced by bleeding air using the airdump valve or flask blow-down valve. Air pressuremay be boosted by supplying air from otherstations. Avoid unnecessary air pressure reductionsthat may overwork air compressors.B-3 ORIGINAL
