<strong>NWP</strong> 4-<strong>01.4</strong>6. Signal the delivery station to tension the outhaul.(3) DELIVERY SHIP1. For Navy standard hauling winch only: Removeslack from outhaul and tension outhaul by placingMASTER STATION SELECTOR SWITCH inBOTH DRUMS ON and slowly moving SPEEDcontrol handle to HALF SPEED detent.2. For other outhaul winches: Remove excessslack from outhaul and tension outhaul by puttingwinch in tension control.(4) BOTH SHIPSThe STREAM system is now ready for transfer ofcargo.8.4.7 Retrieving STREAM With Traveling SURFand Connecting Personnel STREAMWith Hand-Tended Outhaul(1) DELIVERY SHIP1. With the STREAM transfer head in the full-upposition, retrieve the trolley and two-block it tothe transfer head. Hauling winches remain intension control.CAUTIONFor winches that are not Navy standard:When the outhaul winch is switched fromtension control to speed control, the winchbrake automatically sets if the control handleis in neutral. Therefore, perform the next stepexactly as described or a tightline conditioncan develop.2. For outhaul winches that are not Navy standard:Move the outhaul winch’s control lever tothe payout position, and then switch to speedcontrol. Tend the outhaul slack.3. For Navy standard hauling winch:a. Move SPEED control handle to centeredposition.b. Place MASTER STATION SELECTORSWITCH in OUTHAUL DRUM ONLYposition.c. Pay out outhaul using SPEED control handleand tend outhaul slack.(2) RECEIVING SHIP1. Attach the messenger/outhaul to the SURF, andhaul in on the SURF.2. Disconnect the SURF hook from the bail of theSTREAM pelican hook.3. Slack the messenger/outhaul.(3) DELIVERY SHIPNoteThe messenger/outhaul is hand-tended.The outhaul winch operator must be alertfor signals from the receiving station whenretrieving the traveling SURF, so that theSURF will not override the messenger/outhaul.1. Haul in to retrieve the SURF two-blocked againstthe trolley.2. For Navy standard hauling winch only:a. Move SPEED control lever to centeredposition.b. Set MASTER STATION SELECTORSWITCH in BOTH DRUMS ON position.c. Move SPEED control lever to in-haul HALFSPEED detent; leave in detent.3. For other outhaul winches: Tend outhaul astransfer head is lowered.4. Lower transfer head.5. Remove the messenger/outhaul and secure tobulwark. (Receiving station must hand tend themessenger slack.)6. For Navy standard hauling winch only:a. Move SPEED control handle to centeredposition.b. Set MASTER STATION SELECTORSWITCH in OUTHAUL DRUM ONLYposition.8-11 ORIGINAL
