<strong>NWP</strong> 4-<strong>01.4</strong>EASING-OUT LINE2. Upon receipt of “Stopped pumping,” signal thedelivery ship to “Start blowdown” by displayinga white flag (or amber light). Blowdown will continueuntil the receiving ship displays a red signalindicating “Stop blowdown.” The blowdown isnormally completed in 5 to 10 minutes.3. When the delivery ship displays the signal indicating“Blowdown stopped,” close the riser valveand disconnect the A-end and B-end of the breakable-spoolcoupling.4. Position the hose to reconnect the conical cap tothe B-end of the breakable-spool coupling.MESSENGER CLEAREDOVER THE SIDEFOR FREE RUNNINGFigure 5-20. When within about 500 gallons (1.9 m 3 )ofthefuel required to complete the transfer, signal thedelivery ship to “Cease pumping” by displayinga red signal during daylight or a red wand atnight. The delivery ship will display a red signalwhen pumping has stopped.5. Disconnect the hogging-in line from the hose,and ease hose slack overboard.6. Gradually slack off on the inhaul line while theeasing-out line accepts the load. Remove thehook from the bridle (flounder plate) link. Theeasing-out line is now holding the hose rig load(Figure 5-20).7. Ensure that slack in the messenger line is adequateto permit the conical cap and hose to ridefree of the ship’s side when the easing-out lineis released.8.
