Use a socket wrench with a 1-1/2-inch (38.1 mm)socket to open the air valve in the conical cap andbleed the (flotation) air from the hose. Close thevalve after the air has been bled off (Figure 5-17).14. Ensure that the inhaul line is securely engagedwith the flounder plate link and that the hogginginline handlers have the hose tending toward theriser. Disconnect the conical cap from the B-endof the breakable-spool coupling by unscrewingthe three drop bolt nuts located around the outsideof the modified breakable-spool coupling (Figure5-18).15. Manually position the hose so that the drop boltson the modified B-end of the coupling can be engagedwith the corresponding lugs in the A-endof the coupling fixed to the fuel riser, and jointhe two ends (Figure 5-19).CAUTIONBecause of the inherent danger of fuel losscaused by damage to the hose or fittings, it isessential to detect losses as soon as possible.A visual observation of the hose rig duringdaylight should reveal any leakage; however,during night fueling, the delivery shipshould report immediately if a sudden pressuredrop indicates a faulty hose rig.16. Ensure that all valves in the fuel receiving systemare correctly positioned. Signal the deliveryship to “Commence pumping” by displaying agreen flag during daylight or a green wand atnight. The delivery ship will display a green signalwhen pumping has started.17. With the end of the messenger (with the conicalcap) secured in the fairlead block, rig the remainingline in preparation for breakaway operations.Pass the line outboard, and stop it offwith small stuff in long bights with the link forthe float connection leading aft (Figures 5-20and 5-21).18. Walk the hose float assembly aft to a location suitablefor rigging breakaway operations (Figure 5-21).19. Reconnect the messenger link with the float assemblyswivel hook. Rig the messenger float overthe side, below the deck level, ready for immediatewater entry as part of breakaway operations.Remove the bight of the messenger from the fairleadblock. Position the conical cap to permit rapidconnection before breakaway operations.5-22 ORIGINAL
