NWP 4-01.4launcher assembly, piping and associated rigging, and accessories. The major components of the astern fuelinghose reel assembly are shown in Figures 5-3 and 5-4.5.7.4.2 Fueling Hose Assembly. The fueling hoseassembly is 750 feet (228.6 m) of 6-inch (152.4 mm) insidediameter hose with a male or female coupling installedon each end. The female coupling connects thehose to the gooseneck on the drum and shaft assemblyof the reel. The male coupling connects the hose to thefemale end of the securing adapter (see Figure 5-5).5.7.4.3 Conical Cap, Hose Messenger Bridle,Securing Adapter, NATO Coupling, and HoseEnd Assembly. The 6-inch (152.4 mm) fuel hose isfitted on the outboard end with the modified B-end ofthe breakable-spool coupling and a removable conicalcap for the coupling (Figure 5-6). One end of the messengerbridle is attached to the conical cap’s outboardend (Figure 5-7). The other end of the messenger bridleis attached to the securing adapter, using a securingadapter clamp (Figure 5-5). The inboard end is fittedwith an inboard conical cap for attachment of the forwardrecovery wire (Figure 5-5).5.7.4.4 Hose Messenger and Position BuoyAssemblies. The delivery ship provides a messengerthat consists of 310 feet (94.4 m) of 1-inch (25.4 mm),double-braided, nylon rope (Figure 5-8). A spout-typefloat, a length of 9/16-inch (14.2 mm) wire rope, and agrapnel are attached to the outboard end by a snap hook. The inboard end is shackled to the pear-shaped link onthe messenger bridle. The inboard end of the hose is attachedto the reelable astern hose on the reel. The delivery ship also provides a position buoy linethat consists of 800 feet (243.8 m) of 3/8-inch (9.5 mm)wire rope (Figure 5-8). A spout-type float is shackled tothe outboard end. Swaged markers are attached to theline at 100-foot (30.4 m) intervals to indicate how muchline has been streamed. The physical configuration of the buoys (floats) varieswith the manufacturer. The most recent version is acylinder with an inner core of polyethylene foam and anouter skin of orange-colored polyurethane elastomer. When rigged, the float pendant is connected to one ofthe rings of the float. Additional rings are provided onthe outside of the float for attachment of blue chemicallights if required.5.7.4.5 Refueling Station Preparation1. Establish communications with the bridge andcargo control.2. Ensure that station flags (or appropriate colored-lensflashlights for night operations) are ready for use atthe station (see Appendix C and Figure 5-2).5.7.4.6 Rigging the Delivery Ship1. Remove the conical cap from the NATO coupling.Verify that the pig catcher (see Figure 5-6)is installed in the coupling and that the sealingflange gasket is in place. Re-install the conicalcap and secure it with drop bolts.2. Inspect the outboard hose assembly. Ensure thehose has no cracks or breaks and hose couplingsare not damaged.3. Ensure the securing adapter clamp is properlysecured to the securing adapter and CRES cotterpins are installed in the drop bolt and hinge pin(see Figure 5-5).4. Inspect and rig the hose messenger bridle assemblyas follows:a. Lay out the assembly on deck and inspect thewire ropes, chain, and fittings for any breaksor deformation.b. Connect the bridle sling’s wire rope sockets tothe securing adapter clamp (see Figure 5-5).c. Ensure CRES cotter pins are properly installedin the socket pins.d. Connect the shackle or jaw-end swivel to theconical cap padeye.e. Ensure the CRES cotter pin is properly installedin the swivel pin.5. Inspect and rig the hose messenger as follows:a. Inspect the nylon messenger assembly, grapnel, and fittings for any breaks, chafing, or deformation(see Figure 5-8).b. Using a 5/8-inch (15.9 mm) safety anchorshackle, connect the messenger soft eye spliceto the hose messenger bridle assembly at thepear-shaped link.c. Ensure the CRES cotter pin is properly installedin the shackle bolt.5-5 ORIGINAL
