<strong>NWP</strong> 4-<strong>01.4</strong>5. If an outer bight line is used, disconnect it fromthe messenger, attach it to the messengerfairlead, and reeve it through the fairlead blocksto the high point on the ship’s structure. Personnelon the outer bight line will assist in hauling inthe hose.(3) BOTH SHIPSConnect the station phone line headsets, establishvoice communication, and advise the rig captain: “Wehave station-to-station phone communication.”(4) DELIVERY SHIP1. Haul in the lead line messenger for the phone/distance line. When the zero end of the phone/distance line is aboard, attach it to the outermostrail, clear of the transfer station.The approach ship shall hand-tend the B/Bphone/distance line. The B/B phone/distanceline shall be maintained free for running(coiled or faked) and shall never be securedto the approach ship’s structure. Personnelmust keep inboard of all lines and exerciseextreme caution and alertness to potentialdanger.2. Connect the phone/distance line headset, establishvoice communication, and advise the bridge: “Wehave bridge-to-bridge phone communication.”(5) RECEIVING SHIPContinue to haul in the messenger to haul in the hose.(6) DELIVERY SHIPPay out saddle whips as the receiving station hauls inthe hose.(7) RECEIVING SHIPWARNING1. As the end of the hose comes on board, cut thecourtesy stop on the coupling.2. Cut other stops as required to reach the firstflow-through riding line fitting.3. Slip a bight of the riding line on the hook of theriding line fitting.4. Haul in on the first riding line until the outboardriding line fitting is in reach and rig the secondriding line. Adjust riding lines until the couplingis in position for attachment.5. Attach the coupling. For the Robb coupling,move the operating lever (Figure 3-11) to theopen position.It is not possible to engage the Robbcoupling’s female end with the male end ifthe operating lever is in the open position, orto move the operating lever to the openposition once pumping has started.6. Signal the delivery station: “Start pumping.”7. After fuel transfer has started, disconnect themessenger at the flow-through riding line fitting.8. Signal the delivery station to haul in the messengerreturn line.(8) DELIVERY SHIP1. Advise the bridge and cargo control: “Station___ ready to start pumping.”2. Commence pumping fuel.4.10.4 Operating the Close-In Fuel Rig(1) DELIVERY SHIP1. The delivery station tends the hose during fueltransfer by paying out or taking in the saddlewhips as the distance between the ships increasesor decreases, being careful to keep thehose clear of the water.2. Haul in and coil down the messenger return lineand messenger.(2) BOTH SHIPSCAUTIONWhen an outer bight line is used, the delivery andreceiving stations must coordinate to maintain anupright “V” between the outboard saddle whip andthe outer bight line in order to prevent a tightlinesituation.4-9 ORIGINAL
