Close-In Fuel Rig(1) DELIVERY SHIP1. Fake out the STAR messenger and attach the inboardend with a 7/8-inch (22.2 mm) shackle tothe outboard flow-through riding line fitting.2. Stop off the messenger with 12-thread to the outboard9-foot (2.7 m) section of hose at threeplaces. One of the stops will be a courtesy stopon the Robb or breakable-spool coupling.3. Fake out the messenger return line and shackle itto the inboard eye of the messenger.4. If an outer bight line is used, fake out the outerbight line and shackle the inboard end to the outboardsaddle (see Figure 4-3). Stop off the outboardend of the outer bight line to the outboardbecket on the messenger.5. Fake out and attach the lead line for the stationphone line and the lead line messenger for thephone/distance line to the messenger (asrequired).6. Secure the 6-foot (1.8 m) tail of the stationphone line to a cleat at the bulwark.7. Ensure that all necessary rigging, working andrepair tools, and safety equipment are on stationand that personnel are briefed, properly dressed,and on station.(2) RECEIVING SHIP1. Install a 12-inch (30.5 cm) wood or steel messengerblock.2. Install deck fairlead snatch blocks (as necessary)and prereeve small stuff for the messenger lead.3. Install the two-fold purchases and coil down theriding lines (see Figure 3-24). Two riding linesare required for the close-in rig.4.
