<strong>NWP</strong> 4-<strong>01.4</strong>2. When receiving a Robb or breakable-spoolcoupling:a. Haul the hose coupling on board.b. Trip the first free trolley and haul in the firstflow-through riding line fitting.c. Slip a bight of the riding line on the hook ofthe riding line fitting.d. Haul in on the riding line until the coupling isin position for attachment, then secure the ridingline.e. Attach the coupling. For the Robb coupling,move the operating lever (Figure 3-11) to theopen position.It is not possible to engage the Robb coupling’sfemale end with the male end if theoperating lever is in the open position, or tomove the operating lever to the open positiononce pumping has started.f. Signal the delivery station: “Start pumping.”g. After fuel transfer has started, disconnect themessenger at the flow-through riding line fittingand connect it to the messenger returnline.h. Signal the delivery station to haul in the messengerreturn line.(8) DELIVERY SHIP1. Advise the bridge and cargo control: “Station___ ready to start pumping.”2. Commence pumping fuel.4.9.4 Operating the Nontensioned SpanwireFuel Rig(1) DELIVERY SHIPCAUTION1. The saddle winch operator positions and maintainsall saddles for a smooth flow of fuelthrough the hose and tends the saddles. The retrievingsaddle whip (No. 1) shall be tendedslack during fueling operations to prevent anexcessive load at the receiving station’s fuelconnection. The outboard saddle winch (No. 2)is tended to keep the hose bights out of the water,prevent kinking of the hose at the receiving station’sconnection, and prevent excess strain onthe hose and stress wires.2. Haul in and coil down the messenger return lineand messenger.4.9.5 Retrieving the Nontensioned SpanwireFuel Rig(1) DELIVERY SHIP1. Stop pumping.2. Complete the blowdown or back suction and secureall valves. (See paragraph 3.9.1.6.)(2) BOTH SHIPSSignalmen signal: “Replenishment completed at thisstation. Commence unrigging.”(3) RECEIVING SHIP1. For probe:a. Remove the 60-foot (18.2 m) releasing linefrom cleats, fairlead blocks, and all obstructions.Leave the releasing line attached to thetrolley carriage and with small line (6-threador marline), stop it off to the probe.b. When advised by the delivery station’s phonetalker, operate the manual release lever on thereceiver (Figure 3-23) to release the probe.2. For Robb or breakable-spool coupling:a. For Robb coupling, move the operating lever(Figure 3-11) to the closed position.CAUTIONUncoupling the Robb is impossible if thefitting is under strain. Therefore, all strainmust be taken by the riding line.b. Haul in on the riding line to take the strain offthe coupling (if required).c. Disconnect the coupling.4-5 ORIGINAL
