<strong>NWP</strong> 4-<strong>01.4</strong>3. Install the easing-out line on the spanwire endfitting and secure.4. Slack the messenger to allow the pelican hook totake the strain of the span wire, then cut the stopsthat hold the span wire to the messenger.5. Clear personnel from the immediate area.(6) BOTH SHIPS1. The receiving station’s phone talker will notifyboth his bridge and the delivery station: “Readyto tension span wire at station ___ .” This alertshis bridge that tension will be applied shortly.Bridge will grant permission to tension span wire.2. The delivery station’s phone talker will informhis bridge: “We are tensioning the spanwire atstation ___ .” At the same time, the rig captaininstructs the winch operator to tension the spanwire. When the span wire is tensioned, the ASD,if installed, should be turned off until the rig is tobe detensioned. No response is required fromthe bridge, unless it is negative.FLAGPROBE DISENGAGED FROM PROBE RECEIVER.LATCH INDICATOR FLAGS IN STOWED POSITION.3. To complete the communication loop, the deliveryship’s bridge shall immediately notify the receivingship’s bridge: “We are tensioning thespan wire at my station ___ .”4. If either ship’s bridge determines that it wants todelay tensioning the span wire after it has receivedword that the stations are ready, bothship’s bridges and the delivery station shall benotified immediately. The delivery ship’s bridgeshall immediately pass the word to the deliverystation: “Do not tension at station ___ .” The rigcaptain shall immediately instruct the winch operatorto stop tensioning, slacken, and tend thespan wire.(7) RECEIVING SHIP1. Haul in on the messenger. When the probe getsnear the receiver, haul in the probe until it seats inthe receiver. When the probe snaps in, the receiverlatch indicator flags (Figure 3-27) will raise. Thisindicates that the probe is engaged in the receiver.2. Once the probe is properly engaged, disconnectthe STAR messenger at the brummel hooks. Leavethe 60-foot (18.2 m) releasing line attached to theFLAGPROBE MATED WITH PROBE RECEIVER.LATCH INDICATOR FLAGS RAISEDAPPROXIMATELY 30° ABOVE THEHORIZONTAL.Figure 3-27.
