On the wards you will be taught about themanagement of a diversity of patients, many withtracheostomies, acute otological, rhinologicaland paediatric ENT conditions such asmastoiditis, severe epistaxis, periorbital abscess,neck abscesses and airway obstruction as wellas being involved in the care of inpatients andday-to-day running of the ward.In theatre there is the opportunity to assist with arange of operations, including head and neckprocedures, tracheostomies, tonsillectomies andgrommet insertion. On-call FY2: Receives referrals, clerks newpatients, assists with emergency clinic, assistswith the smooth running of the on-call service.2. Ward FY2: Assists with care of the wardpatients.Attendance to a variety of elective theatre andclinics is strongly recommended.A FY2 from either Plastics or ENT will covernights.Typical working pattern in thisplacementNormal day:0800-0900: Handover & ward round0900-1700: Ward work / On-call / TheatresOn call requirements:Band 1b on-call rota (shared with Plastics)Example shifts:Mon-Fri 0800-1700Mon-Thurs or Fri-Sun 0800-2030Mon-Thurs or Fri Sun 2000-0800 (nights)
