NAHANT HARBOR REVIEW • MAY 2006 • Page 7May 27th <strong>Nahant</strong> Arts Returns toCommunity Centerby Carol HansonLast year, the sky cleared, the sunshine poureddown, replacing the rain that had fallen upon our lives forwhat seemed like weeks. <strong>Nahant</strong> Arts 2005 was held inand around the <strong>Nahant</strong> Community Center, with over 30artisans and community groups selling their wares andpromoting their causes. We had live entertainment andfine art in the Serenity Assembly Room, crafters andartisans in the Council on Aging room, in the hallwaysand on the grounds.The Mount Vernon at the Wharf Restaurant broughtand sold delicious box lunches, to fill our bellies and topromote the opening of their newest location in Revere.The Bishop family graced our front walkway with Victoriandancing, in full period costumes, and Sallee Slagle’sDance Dimension students showed us some of their, hiphop,jazzy and funky dance moves, as well. <strong>Nahant</strong>Policeman, Armand Conti, made sure all went smoothlyon the street front, as visitors were encouraged to walkthough. Some accommodations had been made to allowstreet parking in special situations.We hope to do it all again on Saturday, May 27, from9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There are still table spaces andexhibit spaces available. There are art classes for children and teens, heldduring the day, and adult classes in the evening. We alsohave a music program for children, birth to 5, withcaregivers, offered a few times during the season.The open mic/coffeehouse has become a great placeto see live entertainment and the kids are welcome! Wehold it on the last Friday of the month from 6:30 to 9:00p.m. and refreshments are provided, though you arewelcome to bring your own, if you’d prefer. The cost isjust $5 for those over the age of 12. Performers andchildren under 12 are admitted at no charge.We have been fortunate to have quality entertainmentby locals, Bob Bois, Tom Gutermuth, Jeff Foss, DanHamill, Joe Boyd, Ted Lewis and his son Jesse and AlexMoccia. Please come by and see what all the noise isabout!We can accommodate family gatherings, or offer analternative to traditional babysitters, by holding a groupart class for the kids, while the parents get together fordinner, or a movie. Your house stays clean and the kidsget a quality experience! Now we join with the Life Saving Station Management Advisory Committeeto help restore the <strong>Nahant</strong> Life Saving Station. Won’t you join us?Our 2006 goals: The <strong>Nahant</strong> Preservation Trust hopes to be making great strides this year in restoring the<strong>Nahant</strong> Life Saving Station on Short Beach. We will continue to work with the <strong>Nahant</strong> Open Space Committee to support their efforts topreserve our open spaces, our heritage landscapes and in the creation and enhancement ofthe walking path, from Short Beach to Tudor Beach. We will continue to be vigilant and active in the protection of the <strong>Nahant</strong> Country Clubproperty, in our role as one of the largest shareholders in the for-profit corporation propertyowner.
