The component will be implemented by the Zoological Survey of India over a periodof 10 months. The O & M cost of Rs 3,25,00,000/- for a period of five years will be borne bythe ZSI.Component C.2 - Livelihood Generation in DSDA Area246. The <strong>project</strong> proposal has been designed to attach high priority to fostering livelihoodgeneration as an integral component. Digha-Sankarpur and their adjoining areas have a richtradition in artisan technology. The mats prepared by the local artisans have internationaldemand. Conch polishing and shell artifacts are other products of much attraction. The majorproblem for generating income out of these local crafts is the non availability of propermarket facility. In addition, these artisans also require some training for refinements of theirproducts to have edge in marketing. They also require some training in proper packaging oftheir products to claim a share in domestic and international markets.247. Digha and Sankarpur are also places where tourism provides scope for incomegeneration in a good measure. A large number of people earn their livelihood in differentfields associated with tourism and hospitality. As tourism is largely dependent on availabilityof hotels and ancillary services, hotel services and tour operation also play important roles inincome generation. All people associated with the above fields require some sort of trainingto acquire skills in their respective fields. The present <strong>project</strong> has been evolved to take careof the above aspects to boost income generation among the local people by impartingprofessional training in their field. Due emphasis has also been given on capacity building oflocal people, market facilities for the local craftsmen and providing infrastructure foradministering training in different fields as below :i) Travel and tourismii) Secretarial practiceiii) Vocational trainingiv) Food processing (cashew karnel processing, cashew nut shell liquid extraction)v) Handicrafts (Jute, polishing procedure and utilization procedure for exportable shells,stitching and cutting of garments)vi) Aquaculture (pisciculture, prawn culture, crab culture, oyster culture)vii) Floricultureviii) Horticulture (preservation of medicinal plant parts for maximum yield)ix) Civil works (masonary, plumbing, carpentry)x) Electrical works
