<strong>Paxtonia</strong> <strong>PTA</strong> Meeting Minutes<strong>May</strong> 2, <strong>2011</strong>Call to Order :Meeting was called to order by Gayle Staub at 7:01 pm.Reading and Approval of MinutesMinutes from the month of April <strong>2011</strong> was approved as is.Treasurer’s ReportTreasurer’s report was approved as is.Correspondence : No Correspondence.Michele Schooley noted the following…1. She wants to remind all the Committee chairs to return theirbinders to the <strong>PTA</strong> room at the end of <strong>May</strong> or the latest byJune.2. The school district has changed the policy regardingdistribution of information papers to the youngest childinstead of oldest child.Committee ReportsGiant/Karns Rewards- Giant A+ school rewards raised$3,020.00. Karns ‘1 for the schools’ raised $ 990.00. <strong>Paxtonia</strong>had the highest participation in the Karns program this schoolyear.Book Fair- Book Fair committee is all set. The BOGO program(Buy one get one free) will be continued again this year . Goodselections for summer reading will be on display at the Book Fair.Flyers will go home the week of the Fair.


Fundraiser : For the <strong>2011</strong>-12 school year , <strong>Paxtonia</strong> will beparticipating in the InnisBrook fundraiser.Historian: Randa Ross is still in need of pictures for the year endslideshow. The pictures need to be provided through a CD andnot through email.<strong>May</strong> Fair: The committee is still in need of volunteers. They arealso looking for a few parents to come in to do the ticket pre-salein the morning before school for the <strong>May</strong> Fair. Please contactCindy Gundy, if you can help.Moms & Muffins: Looking for better deals on coffee and muffinsfrom local businesses.PAC/Legislative- No report.<strong>PTA</strong> Honorary Lifetime Membership :<strong>PTA</strong> Board members are honored to announce the names for the<strong>PTA</strong> Lifetime members and awards will be presented at theSpring Concert On <strong>May</strong> 18 .The names of the Liftetime Membership award winners areMr.Tom TooneMrs.Kim St. ClairMrs. Sharon SteinerMrs. Karen BloomMrs. Teresa WilliamsMrs.Kim YoderScholarships: Applications were evaluated by Mrs. Slat, Mrs.Swartz and Mrs. Davis. All applications received were fromCentral Dauphin High School students.


Talent Show: With a overwhelming response to the talent showthis year , Mrs. Wise and Mrs. Brown have decided to do theshow over 2 days days again next year. The communicationoption will be email. If there are too many participants then theoptions are either to decide on the basis of ‘first come first basis‘or do the audition at the school time and choose the kids.Unfinished Business :Open Committee Positions :The following committee chair positions are still availableAfter School Club, 5 th Grade Party (Fund Day Gifts)International days (Decoration committee)MembershipLegislativeReading IncentiveIf anyone interested please let us know.Teacher/Staff Appreciation: No Report.However Mrs. Wise mentioned that ,as always we receive awonderful response from parents especially donation of food ,appreciative words and beautiful decorations. She loves it somuch that she would never leave <strong>Paxtonia</strong>.Reading Incentive :Reading incentive program calendars went out on April 1 st . Thisprogram will go on until <strong>May</strong> 27th. The reading goal for Grade K-2 is 200 minutes and Grade 3-5 is 400 minutes. Calendars needto be turned in by June1st. Kids will be rewarded with a free bookfor their reading efforts.


Red Robin Fundraiser : We had a huge success in this fundraising event. We made around $1130/- Thank you for thosewho participated.5th Grade End-of-Year Activities: 5 th Grade Party is at theFriendship Center on June 5 th and everyone needs a signedwaver to get in. Permission slip and wavers are sent home. Mr.Toone agreed to inform parents about that by mass email.Tree update : A decision was made to go with 2 Tulip Poplartrees from Hummles Landscaping . The total cost would be$919.Gifts for the Secretaries:<strong>Paxtonia</strong> Spirit wear was presented to the secretaries.Karen Parody donated Karen’s Crunch.Shout out to Jamie for arranging the babysitting for all the<strong>PTA</strong> Meetings.New Business:Pennsylvania <strong>PTA</strong> Membership Award received. Shout out toSuzy Jones for the biggest increase in membership in the region.She earned this for our <strong>PTA</strong>. Gayle read the message receivedwith the award.Mr. Toone: Gave many thanks to the <strong>PTA</strong> for all their hard workand efforts this year.Day 1 of Teacher Appreciation has gone well.<strong>Paxtonia</strong> got 1 st and 2 nd place at District Math 24 competition.<strong>Paxtonia</strong> raised $1600 for the Japan Earthquake fund.Requested cleanup of all the <strong>PTA</strong> displays before summer.


Papers for the Summer Math Skill group books will be sent home.Meeting Rewards: Jackie Brown won the Kidstuff coupon book.Meeting was adjourned by Gayle Staub at 7.38 pm.
