GSA Member CategoriesThe Society has different membershipcategories for members at differentstages of their careers. If you are a GSAmember and you will soon retire, pleasecontact the office so we can changeyour membership category to Retired.Student membership continues for theduration of your degree. You can thenmove to Graduate category for twoyears and then onto the full Membercategory.MemberMembers are usually graduates froma university or other tertiary institutionand who hold a major in EarthSciences. Members can be graduatesactively engaged in work relatingto the Earth Sciences. In specialcircumstances, the ExecutiveCommittee may approve applicantswho have been employed in a technicalaspect of Earth Science for at leastfive years, or applicants who haveundertaken and published research inthe Earth Sciences. Applicants normallyresident outside Australia are noteligible for this category, but areeligible for Associate Membership.Associate MemberAssociate Members are people over18 years old who can demonstrate agenuine interest in the Earth Sciences.A school or other non-commercialgroup may become an AssociateMember. This category also applies toapplicants who fulfil the requirementsof the Member category but normallyreside outside Australia.Retired MemberRetired Members have been Membersof the Society for at least ten years.Retired Members retain all privilegesand have the option of membershipwith or without the journal.Student MemberStudent Members are studying EarthSciences full-time or part-time at atertiary educational institution or asecondary school, and can provide certificationfrom their Head of Department.Graduate MemberGraduate Members are recently qualifiedEarth Scientists. This category isonly available for two years, normallycommencing immediately after applicantscomplete undergraduate studies.Joint MemberJoint Members are recognised partnersof an existing Member and fulfil all therequirements of the Member category.Joint Members have all Memberprivileges excluding the journal.Affiliates andCorrespondentsProfessionals in other disciplines whoare not eligible to join as Memberscan join Specialist Groups if they areemployed in, or genuinely interestedin, specialist areas of Earth Science.Applicants must satisfy the requirementsof their nominated specialistgroup. Affiliates are Australian residentsand Correspondents are non-Australianresidents.Honours StudentsEarth Science Honours Students areeligible for one year’s free membershipduring their Honours year.Not sure about your membershipcategory?
