Beth TfilohBulletin ElulA New Year Message for the Beth Tfiloh FamilyWith the coming New Year 5771,we offer our prayers that eachof us be sealed in the Book of Lifeand granted a year of good health andhappiness. This message, co-signed byall of our lay and professional leaders, represents the unity and cameraderie ofBeth Tfiloh, and the fact that we are onefamily. The Beth Tfiloh family. The Hebrew word, "Shana" not onlymeans "year", it means both "new" and"repeat". And so here at Beth Tfiloh, there are aspects of the coming yearthat will be "new" and aspects that willbe the a "repeat performance".So, as they say, "what's new?" We arethrilled to welcome Rabbi Chai Posner, his wife, Rachel, and their son, Roni.Rabbi Chai (as he prefers to be called)brings to our shul and school his widerange of skills and interests, and hisability to relate to young and old alike. He will be leading our Sagner HighHoliday services together with RabbiJeremiah Wohlberg, who will serve asHazzan, following his retirement after47 years as the rabbi of CongregationOhav Shalom in Merrick, New York. The Sagner Service has also beenredesigned (see article on page 5) toprovide a greater feeling of intimacyand participation. In the Dahan Sanctuary, a new choirfeaturing our talented alumni andother vocalists will stand on the Bimaalongside of our wonderful HazzanAvi Albrecht, and will lead us in a newrepertoire of High Holiday melodies toprovide a more upbeat and participatoryservice. And what at BT will be a "repeatContinued on page 11Celebrating the Joy of Judaism,Embracing all Jews.5768elulSeptember5770 - tishrei20085771september 2010THIS MONTH AT BTSaturday, September 4selichotThursday/Friday, Sept. 9/10rosh hashanahSaturday September 11SHABBAT SHUVA WORKSHOPS &RABBI WOHLBERG'S DRASHASunday, September 12annual memorial servicesfast of gedaliahFriday, September 17kol nidreSaturday, September 18yom kippurThursday/Friday, Sept. 23/24sukkotSunday, September 26block partyThursday, September 30shemini atzeretFriday, October 1sIMCHAT TORAHSHANA TOVA FROM THE BT CLERGY (left to right) Rabbi Mitchell Wohlberg, Hazzan Avi Albrecht,Rabbi Daniel Lerner, Rabbi Chai Posner and Rabbi Chaim Wecker.Selichot at Beth TfilohSaturday evening, September 4 thFilm: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas9:00 PM Mintzes TheatreA timeless story of innocence lost andhumanity found, seen through the eyes ofthe son of a concentration camp commandantwho develops a friendship with a Jewish boy onthe other side of the camp fence.Selichot Service, led by HazzanAvraham Albrecht10:45 PM Epstein ChapelA STORY OFINNOCENCE INA WORLD OFIGNORANCEHigh Holiday choir changesaim to encourage greaterparticipationThis year, the High Holiday choirthat will accompany Hazzan Albrechtin the Dahan Sanctuary will include fivenew young singers and a conductor. Two of the choir members are talentedalumni of Beth Tfiloh Dahan HighSchool – Spencer Goldberg ‘07 andAri Lesser ‘07.
