CMSM is a brand<strong>of</strong> excellence that recognises the best qualified managersin a marine service environment. To achieve CMSM statusapplicants are assessed on real-world abilities, such assupervising and managing people, financial management,marketing, understanding <strong>of</strong> the regulatory obligations <strong>of</strong>marine businesses, successful “bottom line” management,evidence <strong>of</strong> high character and ethical standards.Two top marine service managersfrom Australia were presentedwith CMSM status at the<strong>Marina</strong>s 2009 conference on theQueensland Gold Coast, May25-27. Presenting the certificates<strong>of</strong> achievement was SteveSammes CMM <strong>of</strong> Gold Coast City<strong>Marina</strong> and Director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Marina</strong><strong>Industries</strong> <strong>Association</strong> <strong>of</strong> Australiaand Jim Frye CMM, President <strong>of</strong> theInternational <strong>Marina</strong> Institute andVice President <strong>of</strong> Westrec <strong>Marina</strong>s.The MIAA <strong>of</strong>fers the qualifying Marine Workshop andService Managers course in Australia 17-20 August 2009 tomarina managers from the Asia-Pacific region.For further information please visit www.marinas.net.auor +61 2 9439 5806.Apply Now for $5M in Better Boating GrantsMr Tripodi said $5 million has been provided in the 2009-10 Program and from today applicants are invited to putforward projects they think may qualify.‘Boating clubs, community groups, councils and other organisationswill be able to apply for Better Boating grantsworth $25 million over the next five years,’ Mr Tripodi said.‘That’s an increase <strong>of</strong> $2 million a year on previous fundingprograms for facilities such as boat ramps, public wharves,jetties, sewage pump out facilities and public moorings.’Mr. Tripodi said to be eligible for funding, projects mustbe available for use by a broad cross section <strong>of</strong> the boatingpublic. Infrastructure must also be <strong>of</strong> a lasting nature havethe support <strong>of</strong> local councils and the community.‘The State Government supports this increase in grantfunding which in turn provides support to the marine sectorand the estimated 1.5 million people who use our waterways,’Mr Tripodi said.‘Over the last 12 months the number <strong>of</strong> boat licence holdersin NSW has increased by four and a half per cent toover 470,000. Boating is a big part <strong>of</strong> the NSW lifestyle andthese Better Boating grants reflect that.’Mr. Tripodi said since 1998-99, NSW Maritime had providedfunding for more than 400 recreational boating infrastructureprojects worth almost $20 million.The Better Boating Program replaces NSW Maritime’s previousfunding programs – including the Maritime InfrastructureProgram.Applications for grants close on Friday, July 31 2009.
