(Japan), the174.38m x 30.50m x 27.73m tanker had its mainengines, high velocity venting valves and cargovalves overhauled. All cracks which were foundin the various cargo tanks and their ladderswere repaired while the windlass and winchesbrake linings were routinely renewed. YARD YARD NEWS NEWSGinga KiteGinga Kite, a 19,997 dwt chemical tankerowned by Tokyo Marine Co. <strong>Ltd</strong>, took timeout to undergo a scheduled survey in <strong>Jurong</strong><strong>Shipyard</strong> from mid to end June 2009.This is the second visit for the 147.83m x24.20m x 12.80m Ginga Kite which lastcalled for survey works in 2006. As part ofthe repairs, the yard conducted a detailedcheck on the vessel in which the cargo hosehandling crane luffi ng cylinder, sea valves anddiesel engine governors were overhauled.The ballast tanks were hydroblasted andpainted while the chain lockers, sea chest andhull underwent paint works after cleaning.Ginga Kite during her stopover.Cape ApricotThe 180,310 dwt capesize bulk carrierCape Apricot made a stopover at <strong>Jurong</strong><strong>Shipyard</strong> in mid June for a detailedinspection.Cape Apricot looking fresh after her repairs.Built in 2004 and owned by Tokei Kaiun <strong>Ltd</strong>,the 12-day stay of the 288.93m x 45.00m x24.70m carrier saw the complete overhaulof the vessel’s air cooler and main engineturbo charger, the installation of two sets ofpilot ladders and the repairing of the hatchcover’s jack-up cylinder.Cielo LuciaCielo Lucia, a decade-old 73,852 dwt bulkcarrier from Yamamaru Kisen Co. <strong>Ltd</strong>, calledat <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> for repairs in June 2009.Measuring 225.00m x 32.20m x 19.20m, thevessel received steel renewal works of morethan 47 tons for its cargo hold and apt tankswhich were located at the starboard. YARD NEWSCaspian Sea FSO UpgradingFSO Caspian Sea looking resplendent after her upgrading and life extension.<strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> saw the on-schedule sailaway of Caspian Sea, a 104,356 dwtFloating Storage Offloading (FSO) vessel measuring 243m x 45.80m x 20.10m, onJune 24, 2009 following the vessel’s successful life extension and upgrading forTanker Pacific Offshore Terminals.FSO Caspian Sea arrived in <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>in early April 2009 to undergo longevity repairsinvolving steel renewal as well as blasting andcoating of hull structures and ballast tanks.Upgrading works were also performed on thevessel comprising installation of boat landingsand new life boats and upgrading of producedwater system. The vessel’s accommodationwas upgraded to increase the crew capacity andenhance the facilities.Despite the tight and challenging schedule, theproject was completed with zero-incidents and onCaspian Sea on arrival.<strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>’s Executive Director Mr LeeYeok Hoon and Senior Manager of Offshore MrM. SCM : AROUND SCM : NEWS THE YARDSPT SMOE Indonesia to Build Two Offshore Platformsat S$230MPT SMOE Indonesia, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine’sSMOE <strong>Pte</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong>, has in consortium with PT Saipem Indonesiasecured a US$430 million construction contract in <strong>May</strong> 2009for two offshore platforms from Premier Oil Natuna Sea B.V.The contract calls for the engineering and construction of a CentralProcessing Platform, a Wellhead Platform and a 16 inch diameter by 3 kmexport subsea gas pipeline, to be installed in about 80 metres water depthin the Gajah Baru Field, offshore Indonesia.The subsea pipeline, to be linked to the existing export trunkline, will carry140 million cubic feet of gas to Sembgas in Singapore. First gas is expectedin October 2011. PT SMOE Indonesia’s portion of the contract, worthabout S$230 million, entails part procurement, construction engineering,construction, hook-up and commissioning of the two platforms, while PTSaipem Indonesia’s scope of work covers engineering design, procurement,transportation and installation of the platforms and the subsea pipeline.Facilities on the Central Processing Platform, which has a topside weightof about 8,200 tons and a jacket weight of about 4,700 tons, will includecompression, separation, glycol regeneration, gas metering, mechanicalrefrigeration, utilities and living quarters for 60 men. The Wellhead Platformhas an estimated topside weight of about 900 tons and a jacket weight ofGraphic view of the Gajah Baru project.about 1,400 tons. This has led to improved productivity, enhanced safety and greater cost-effi ciency at theworkplace.2 nd Prize: “Guardrail Locking Device”HP 3 (<strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>, Hull Painting & Staging Department)The “Guardrail Locking Device”, conceived by TeamHP 3 from <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>’s Hull Painting & StagingDepartment, is a light-weight and versatile contraptionthat effectively secures guardrails around man-holesand access openings to prevent falling hazards.Unlike previous methods which had limitations orinvolved the use of hotwork, this innovative device provides an all-in-one solution that is easily adjusted to suit openingsof various dimensions. The ‘holding hook’ of the gadget is anchored to the edge of the hole while the two endpockets are used for inserting staging poles for greater stability. Besides signifi cantly improving workplacesafety, this innovation has generated cost-savings due to more effi cient usage of manpower and materials.3 rd Prize: “Grinding Machine Support”The Contender (Hull Steel Department)The “Grinding Machine Support” innovation was developed by The Contender from<strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>’s Hull Steel Department with the aim to enhance the ease andeffi ciency of the overhead grinding process frequently used during rig construction,bottom plates renewal and ship repair.The grinding machine is held in place by the device’s U-shaped holder, which is attachedto an adjustable pipe and hinged to a base to allow for swinging movements duringuse. HAPPENINGSChangi Coastal WalkSenior management taking the lead towardshealthy living.Ready, set, go! <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>’s Managing Director Mr WS Wong flagging off the walk.Geared up in sporty attire, more than 250 <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> employeescongregated at Changi Point on June 27, 2009 for a fun and leisurelyafternoon walk.<strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong>’s Managing Director Mr WSWong fl agged off the 4.8 km walk which sawparticipants passing by key attractions such asChangi Beach Park, Changi Point Coastal Walk,Changi Cottage and The Turnhouse along theway.
