Appendix 4Follow up ActivitiesSA Health will continue to sample and analyse the microbiological quality of fresh produce periodically. A periodicalcurve will be developed as data is collected and this data can be used to determine seasonal differences inmicrobiological quality, as well as allow preventative action to be taken if required.Discussion of resultsThe survey results indicated a high level of microbiological quality, in respect to the presence of pathogens, with 100% of samples analysed producing negative results for Salmonella, E. coli, E. coli 0157 andL. monocytogenes presence. One sample of broccoli contained Listeria welshimeri – this strain of Listeria is considered to be non pathogenicand therefore no risk to public health.ConclusionSixty raw vegetable products were analysed for the presence of E. coli, E. coli 0157, Salmonella and L. monocytogenes. The results indicated a high level of microbiological quality with no detection of target organisms in any sample.Food Act Report Year ending 30 June 2010 page 54
