LEA grievance procedure applies in relation to any dispute arising inconnection with this <strong>Job</strong> <strong>Description</strong>.Main PurposeThe postholder will be required to carry out the professional duties of an Assistant Headteacher asoutlined and to co-operate with requests which may be reasonably made from time to time by theHeadteacher. The Assistant Teacher should show a commitment to the aims, policies and ethos of the<strong>School</strong> and strive to maintain these through personal conduct and effective relationships with colleaguesand pupils.This Assistant Headteacher post has been generated as the headteacher and deputy headteacher needmore help in supporting teachers. We want an experienced outstanding practitioner to be able to supportteachers when there are development needs. They will work beneath and support the Head and Deputy inmonitoring and supporting teaching throughout the school through approaches like team teaching, modellessons, working with teachers throughout the school on identified areas and supporting planning in orderto help teachers continue to improve standards at <strong>Gusford</strong>. This is a 2 year post.Core leadership tasks include Supporting the Headteacher in promoting the vision and the aims of the school Creating a learning context which promotes the highest achievement Supporting and promoting school self-evaluation Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching and learning taking place within the school, alongwith other members of the Senior Leadership Team Mentoring teachers and staff in high quality learning


ResponsibilitiesLearning1. Supporting the Headteacher in promoting the vision and the aims of the school2. Supporting and promoting school self-evaluation3. Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching and learning taking place within the school, alongwith other members of the Senior Leadership Team4. Taking responsibility for co-ordinating teacher development5. Running a 'Best you can Be' programme for teachers6. Demonstrating excellence in classroom practice7. Creating a learning context which promotes the highest achievement8. Supporting teachers in analysing data and ensuring the effective use of data for target setting andraising standardsEthos9. Developing and maintaining good relationships and effective communication with the Headteacher,Deputy headteacher, staff, parents, governors, children and partner agencies10. Maintaining good order and effective discipline throughout the school11. Assisting the Headteacher with pastoral responsibility, including Child Protection matters12. Fostering and supporting extra-curricular activities in the interests of the school community eg schoolplays, concerts, sports fixtures, clubs, and discos.Leadership13. Being a member of the Senior Leadership Team14. Undertaking, in the absence of the Headteacher and deputy headteacher, duties of the Headteacher15. Undertaking any professional duty of the Headteacher which may be delegated by the HeadteacherManagement16. Acting as a Team Leader for Performance Management17. Assisting with recruitment and appointment procedures for staff, including support staff18. Undertaking playtime and lunchtime duties as necessary, to ensure that the school is adequatelysupervised during these times19. Working with the Headteacher in budgetary, administrative and pastoral affairs to ensure thecontinuing development of the school20. The Conditions of Employment of Deputy & Assistant Heads (<strong>School</strong> Teachers Pay & ConditionsDocument 2012) specify the general professional duties of Deputy & Assistant Heads. In addition,certain particular duties are reasonably required to be exercised and completed in a satisfactorymanner. It is the contractual duty of the post-holder to ensure that his or her professional duties aredischarged effectively.21. In addition, the duties and responsibilities of this post may vary from time to time according to thechanging demands of the school.
