This is done by placing the edgeof a straight steel ruler over the coupling flanges at four points, 90º apart. The straight edgerested equally on all points on the flanges to ensure parallel alignment. The distancebetween the coupling levels at 90º intervals is also measured. A Vernier calliper is used.
