The inquirer who seeks consideration <strong>for</strong> ordination to <strong>the</strong> permanentdiaconate needs to enter into dialogue with his parishsince it is <strong>the</strong> pastor who is required to initially present him <strong>for</strong>diaconal <strong>for</strong>mation. (174)2. A <strong>for</strong>mal application process, as well as a committee on admission<strong>and</strong> scrutinies, should be in place to review <strong>and</strong> nominateapplicants. As part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> application process, those charged with admissionmust—with appropriate care <strong>for</strong> confidentiality <strong>and</strong> manifestation<strong>of</strong> conscience—explore <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence <strong>of</strong> canonicalimpediments to ordination. If canonical dispensations arerequired, <strong>the</strong>se must be obtained be<strong>for</strong>e admission to aspirant<strong>for</strong>mation. (176)4.
