An integral <strong>for</strong>mation must relate <strong>the</strong> human, spiritual, <strong>and</strong>intellectual dimensions to pastoral practice. “The whole <strong>for</strong>mationimparted to [<strong>the</strong> participants] . . . aims at preparing <strong>the</strong>m to enterinto communion with <strong>the</strong> charity <strong>of</strong> Christ. . . . Pastoral fieldeducation fosters a general integration in <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>mational process<strong>for</strong>ging a close link between <strong>the</strong> human, spiritual, <strong>and</strong> intellectualdimensions in <strong>for</strong>mation. Evangelization; Catholic schools; catechetics;religious education; youth ministry, social justice outreachopportunities; rural ministry; ecumenism; <strong>the</strong> care <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sick, elderly,<strong>and</strong> dying; as well as service opportunities in varied cultural settingsindicate <strong>the</strong> breadth <strong>of</strong> experiences to which an aspirant <strong>and</strong> c<strong>and</strong>idatesmay be exposed in <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> his pastoral field-education program.Integrating role <strong>of</strong>pastoral <strong>for</strong>mationOBJECTIVES127. The pastoral dimension in diaconal <strong>for</strong>mation shouldstreng<strong>the</strong>n <strong>and</strong> enhance <strong>the</strong> exercise <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prophetic, priestly, <strong>and</strong>servant-leadership functions—deriving from his baptismal consecration—alreadylived <strong>and</strong> exercised by <strong>the</strong> participant in diaconal <strong>for</strong>mation.In each path in <strong>for</strong>mation, <strong>the</strong>y must be taught how to proclaim<strong>the</strong> Christian message <strong>and</strong> teach it, how to lead o<strong>the</strong>rs in communalcelebrations <strong>of</strong> liturgical prayer, <strong>and</strong> how to witness to <strong>the</strong>Church in a Christian service marked by charity <strong>and</strong> justice. Thedemonstration <strong>of</strong> pastoral skills is a crucial element in <strong>the</strong> assessment<strong>of</strong> fitness <strong>for</strong> ordination. There<strong>for</strong>e, <strong>the</strong> qualities to be developed<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>se tasks are as follows: a spirit <strong>of</strong> pastoral responsibility<strong>and</strong> servant-leadership; generosity <strong>and</strong> perseverance; creativity;respect <strong>for</strong> ecclesial communion; <strong>and</strong> filial obedience to <strong>the</strong> bishop.Objectives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>pastoral dimension
