A permanent deacon may not present his name <strong>for</strong> electionto any public <strong>of</strong>fice or in any o<strong>the</strong>r general election, or accept anomination or an appointment to public <strong>of</strong>fice, without <strong>the</strong> priorwritten permission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> diocesan bishop. 98 A permanent deaconmay not actively <strong>and</strong> publicly participate in ano<strong>the</strong>r’s political campaignwithout <strong>the</strong> prior written permission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> diocesan bishop.Temporary Absence from an Assignment92. <strong>Permanent</strong> deacons may temporarily absent <strong>the</strong>mselves from<strong>the</strong>ir place <strong>of</strong> assignment with <strong>the</strong> permission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir proper pastoror priest supervisor.Decree <strong>of</strong> Appointment93. A deacon shall receive a decree <strong>of</strong> appointment from hisbishop,which should delineate his specific duties <strong>and</strong> responsibilities<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> designation <strong>of</strong> his proper pastor or priest supervisor. 99Support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Clergy94. <strong>Permanent</strong> deacons are to take care <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir own <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>irfamily’s needs using income derived from <strong>the</strong>ir full-time employmentby <strong>the</strong> diocese, parish, or secular pr<strong>of</strong>ession. In an individualsituation <strong>of</strong> need, <strong>the</strong> diocesan Church ought to assist <strong>the</strong> deacon<strong>and</strong> his family in charity.Social Security Insurance95. To provide <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir own upkeep, every permanent deacon isobliged to satisfy <strong>the</strong> legal requirements <strong>for</strong> Social Security benefitsor a comparable program. 100Remuneration96. (1) <strong>Permanent</strong> deacons in full-time employment by <strong>the</strong> diocese,parish, or agency are to receive remuneration commensuratewith <strong>the</strong> salaries <strong>and</strong> benefits provided to <strong>the</strong> lay men <strong>and</strong> womenon staff <strong>for</strong> that particular occupation. 101(2) <strong>Permanent</strong> deacons in full-time secular employment, as well asthose in part-time ministries, are to be reimbursed <strong>for</strong> legitimateexpenses incurred in <strong>the</strong>ir ministry. 102
