Organization, Structure, <strong>and</strong> Personnel <strong>for</strong> Diaconal <strong>Formation</strong>131in determining a just stipend are <strong>the</strong> level <strong>of</strong> a faculty member’sacademic credentials <strong>and</strong> experience, toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> timecommitment in preparing, teaching, <strong>and</strong> counseling participantsd. An educational environment that includes proper equipment,classroom space, <strong>and</strong> materialse. Feedback from <strong>the</strong> administrators <strong>and</strong> students regarding <strong>the</strong>faculty member’s presentations <strong>and</strong> responsef. A <strong>for</strong>mal service agreement between <strong>the</strong> director <strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> individual faculty member that incorporates <strong>the</strong> aboveexpectations <strong>and</strong> that makes as explicit as possible mutual services<strong>and</strong> obligationsService agreementMentors280. The director <strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation, with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>and</strong> appointment<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> bishop, should designate mentors from among deaconsor priests who are knowledgeable <strong>and</strong> competent to assist him inassessing <strong>the</strong> potential <strong>and</strong> qualifications <strong>of</strong> those in <strong>for</strong>mation. Thementor is equivalent to <strong>the</strong> “tutor” described in <strong>the</strong> Basic Norms <strong>for</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Formation</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Permanent</strong> Deacons. The mentor is charged with following<strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> those committed to his care, <strong>of</strong>fering support<strong>and</strong> encouragement. Depending upon <strong>the</strong> size <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>mationcommunity, a mentor will be responsible <strong>for</strong> one aspirant or c<strong>and</strong>idate,or he may be invited to minister to a small group <strong>of</strong> aspirantsor c<strong>and</strong>idates. Mentors receive <strong>the</strong>ir orientation <strong>and</strong> supervisionfrom <strong>the</strong> director <strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation. They also help <strong>the</strong> director <strong>for</strong> pastoral<strong>for</strong>mation facilitate <strong>the</strong>ological reflection among thoseassigned to <strong>the</strong>m. Mentors are members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation team <strong>and</strong>are invited “to collaborate with <strong>the</strong> director <strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation in <strong>the</strong> programming<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> different <strong>for</strong>mational activities <strong>and</strong> in <strong>the</strong> preparation<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> judgment <strong>of</strong> suitability.” 18VI. Advisory Structures <strong>for</strong> Aspirant <strong>and</strong>C<strong>and</strong>idate Paths <strong>of</strong> <strong>Formation</strong>281. Members <strong>of</strong> advisory structures should be representative <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>pastors, deacons, deacons’ wives, religious, <strong>and</strong> laity. Whenever possible<strong>the</strong>y ought to reflect <strong>the</strong> variety <strong>of</strong> cultures <strong>and</strong> diverse ethnic <strong>and</strong>racial groups in <strong>the</strong> diocese. Members may be nominated by <strong>the</strong> director<strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation <strong>and</strong> be approved <strong>and</strong> appointed by <strong>the</strong> bishop.
