APPENDIX 5FOUR POOL 16-TEAM COMPETITION (KNOCK OUT CLASSIFICATION MATCHES) PLANAND RANKING1. PLAN OF THE COMPETITION1.1 There will be four pools, each comprising four teams.1.2 The four pools will be composed as follows based on the <strong>FIH</strong> World Ranking as at the datewhen the match schedule is agreed:POOL A POOL B POOL C POOL D1 2 3 48 7 6 59 10 11 1216 15 14 131.3 If one or more team(s) does not participate, a reserve team(s), if called upon, will, in principle,take the place of the defaulting team(s). The <strong>FIH</strong> reserves the right to exercise an unfettereddiscretion to re-arrange the composition of the pools prior to the pre-tournament briefingmeeting.2. RANKING IN THE POOLS2.1 Ranking in a pool is determined according to Appendix 3.3. CLASSIFICATION MATCHES3.1 The quarter-finals will be as follows although the matches will not necessarily be played in thisorder:1 st Pool A v 2 nd Pool B Match 11 st Pool D v 2 nd Pool C Match 21 st Pool B v 2 nd Pool A Match 31 st Pool C v 2 nd Pool D Match 4The winners of these matches will play for 1st to 4th places and the losing teams will play for 5thto 8th places.3.2 The initial classification matches for 9 th to 16 th places will be as follows although the matcheswill not necessarily be played in this order:3 rd Pool A v 4 th Pool B Match 53 rd Pool D v 4 th Pool C Match 63 rd Pool B v 4 th Pool A Match 73 rd Pool C v 4 th Pool D Match 8<strong>FIH</strong> <strong>Tournament</strong> <strong>Regulations</strong>:Outdoor Competitions – June 2013Page 22
