WVDP Phase 1 CSAPFigure I.15 shows the current Conceptual Site Model (CSM) for WMA 10 surface soils. Asdepicted on the figure, soil contamination, if it exists, is most likely to be found in thenortheastern portion of WMA 10.I.8 WMA 10-Specific Characterization Goals• Evaluate Appropriateness of the Current List of Radionuclides of Interest (ROI)• Explore the Possibility of Surrogate ROI• Determine Extent of Surface Contamination• Develop an Inventory of Buried Infrastructure• Identify the Presence/Absence of Subsurface Soil Contamination• Identify Soil Waste Stream Characteristics• Establish Site-Specific Performance for On-Site and Field-Based Analytical Methods• Obtain Data to Support Phase 2 PlanningI.9 CSAP Pre-Remediation Data Collection and Associated Decision-MakingCSAP pre-remediation data collection will consist of a number of components described in moredetail below.I.9.1Buried InfrastructureThe footprint of buried infrastructure will be identified and mapped. Buried infrastructure ofparticular interest for WMA 10 is infrastructure that would have been installed after 1968, and sopotentially might have involved the use of contaminated soils as backfill. An example is thecurrent storm water sewer system. [required]I.9.2Gamma Walkover Survey DataThe purpose of performing a gamma walkover survey of the WMA 10 area is to identify the leveland extent of surface contamination. This includes both general trends in average activityconcentrations pertinent to the CG w requirement, as well as the identification of isolated, moreelevatedanomalies that might be indicative of discrete releases and/or CG emc concerns.Rev. 1 I-9
