WVDP Phase 1 CSAPditch sediment contamination status relative to surface soil CG w requirements. Surface drainagefeatures will be sampled as follows:• Samples representing a 0-15 cm depth interval will be collected from ditch sediments. InWMA 2, the primary drainage feature has a length of approximately 210 m. Samples willbe systematically located using a random start, separated by 30 m. [required]• If any 0-15 cm sample result indicates contamination impacts above background levelsand a 15 cm-1 m sample was not also collected, a 15 cm-1 m sample will be collectedfrom that location following the protocols used for the original 0-15 cm sample.[contingent]• If a sample indicates contamination impacts above background levels for the 15 cm-1 mdepth interval, an additional sample from a depth of 1–2 m will be collected and analyzedfrom that location. This will be repeated, as necessary, until the vertical extent ofcontamination impact is bounded at that location. [contingent]B.9.6Buried Infrastructure Soil SamplingSoils associated with buried infrastructure of potential concern within WMA 2 will be sampled todetermine their contamination status. Buried infrastructure that is of potential concern in WMA 2is defined to be buried infrastructure that either carried contaminated waste/wastewater or wasinstalled after 1968.• Three locations along each piece of buried infrastructure that is of concern within WMA2 will be trenched. These locations will be selected to maximize the possibility thatcontamination will be encountered (e.g., locations where historical or current GWS dataindicate surface contamination exists). For infrastructure that crosses the planned WMA 2excavation boundary, one of these locations will be at the boundary. Trenching will notoccur within the planned WMA 2 excavation footprint. During excavation, exposed soilswill be monitored by scans for evidence of elevated gross activity. The purpose of thissampling is to evaluate the presence of contaminated soils associated with buriedinfrastructure. [required]Rev. 1 B-25
