Chapter 2 ⎯ Description of the Proposed Action and AlternativesFigure 2–4Schofield Barracks Range Projects; Range projects other than the BattleArea Complex would be needed at SBMR under all Alternatives exceptthe No ActionIncreased live-fire training activities would occur at SBMR to support Soldier and Crew qualificationswhile a greater frequency of company and battalion CALFEXs would increase the live-firetraining activities at PTA. In addition, more blank rounds and simulated munitions or SRTA would beused at KTA to support urban operations training. If MMR is available for live-fire training, theSBCT would use it for convoy live-fire training and dismounted combined arms training. In the latter,SBCT Soldiers would maneuver without vehicles. Up to five Strykers would provide supporting firefrom fixed positions. Any potential uses of MMR are being addressed in a separate NEPA document.Maneuver Training: The stationing of the 2/25 th SBCT would involve an increase in the amount andscale of maneuver training that takes place in Hawaii. To implement fully the maneuver training ofthe 2/25 th in Hawaii, the SBCT would need to train and access parcels of land acquired or otherwiseused to support its increased requirements. The SBCT would require the use of Dillingham Trail thatwould need to be widened and upgraded to support the SBCT so that its units can access trainingranges of DMR using this trail system instead of public roads. The 2/25 th would require the use of theHelemano Trail to minimize impacts to traffic on public roads. In addition, the SBCT and other unitswould require use of the WPAA to provide for maneuver training and the use of the SRAA to conducttraining range qualification and limited, primarily on-road maneuver training. The PTA Kawaihaetrail would also be needed by the SBCT and other military units to provide military vehicle access toPTA while minimizing impacts to traffic on public roads.February 2008 2–27 2/25th SBCT Final EIS
