Chapter 5 – Environmental Consequencesthe No Action alternative, ammunition handling, storage, and disposal would continue at currentlevels. Existing weapons would continue to be used as part of current force training. Rangecontamination would continue to accumulate until range closure and remedial cleanup, but therewould be no increase in ammunition used, so there would be only consistent levels of ongoingincreased contamination. It is not likely that general training would result in any significant impacts.Unexploded Ordnance. The quantity of ammunition used during training would not increase. Therefore, no increases in potential impacts from the presence of UXO are expected.Lead. Current force would continue live-fire training with lead-containing ammunition at FRA andDTA. Continued ammunition use could increase the volume of soil that needs to be remediated forlead in the future. All live-fire activities that could present a source of lead contamination to the soilswould be contained in the existing ordnance impact area, and no new ordnance impact areas would beintroduced. Ordnance clearance and cleanup would follow existing federal, state, and Army protocols.5.5.9.2.4 Impacts from Maneuver TrainingLess Than Significant ImpactsPetroleum, Oils, and Lubricants. The Army would continue to follow federal, state, and Armyprotocol. Wheeled vehicles would continue to be used by current forces in maneuver training on FRAand DTA. Consequently, the potential exists for spills of these products during maneuver training. However, continued implementation of regulatory and administrative mitigation measures is expectedto limit the potential impacts to human health and safety to less than significant.5.5.9.3 Colorado5.5.9.3.1 Impacts from Cantonment ConstructionLess Than Significant ImpactsThe current number of Soldiers stationed and training at FTC and PCMS would remain the same. However, some additional cantonment facilities would be constructed to meet the needs of theunaccompanied Soldiers that are currently housed off post. Construction of these facilities wouldproceed as needed and less than significant impacts are expected to human health and safety. No impacts would be expected from asbestos, LBP, PCBs, pesticides/herbicides, biomedical waste, orradon under the No Action. Overall, impacts to human health and safety are expected to be less thansignificant. Continued implementation of regulatory and administrative mitigation measures isexpected to reduce the potential impacts to human health and safety to less than significant.5.5.9.3.2 Impacts from Range ConstructionNo ImpactsNo change in the Soldier population would occur. No range construction projects are currentlyplanned. Consequently, no impacts are expected to human health and safety.February 2008 5-222 2/25th SBCT Final EIS
