Chapter 2 ⎯ Description of the Proposed Action and AlternativesFigure 2–16 Locations of Firing Ranges Required to Support the Stationing of the2/25 th SBCTManeuver Training: The stationing of the 2/25 th SBCT at Fort Carson would involve a slight increasein the overall amount of required maneuver training that would occur at Fort Carson andPCMS following the implementation of BRAC legislation and GDPR. To support doctrinal maneuvertraining requirements, a majority of training above the platoon level would have to occur at PCMSbecause of training land availability constraints present at Fort Carson. Fort Carson was required tosupport up to 5 weeks of platoon training for the 131 combat maneuver and reconnaissance platoonsof the 3 HBCTs and the 4/4 th scheduled to be stationed there. Recently, the Army decided to stationanother IBCT at Fort Carson as part of efforts to grow and realign the Army’s capabilities (Army2007c), meaning that 159 combat maneuver platoons will conduct maneuver training at Fort Carsonand PCMS. The exchange of the 2/25 th for the 4/4 th under this Alternative would result in a net increaseof nine combat maneuver platoons training at Fort Carson for a total training load of 168 platoons. This represents an overall projected increase in the maneuver training activities at Fort Carsonof approximately 6 percent of the total maneuver requirement. The frequency of company and large-unit maneuver training events would increase at PCMS, as well. There are an additional four maneuver companies and one maneuver battalion in the SBCT whencompared to the IBCT. This equates to up to an additional 20 company maneuver rotations and twoadditional battalion maneuver rotations per year that would be conducted at PCMS to support the maneuvertraining certifications of the SBCT. With eight companies and two battalions able to conducttraining at PCMS simultaneously this represents an increased requirement for the utilization of PCMSFebruary 2008 2–45 2/25th SBCT Final EIS
