➣ 14.5 CADDY ®2a. Spring Steel <strong>Clips</strong> 2b. “Bolt on”1a. Description2a. DescriptionCADDY ® clips from ERICO aremanufactured from heat treatedspring steel and, as a single orcombined fixing system willprimarily apply to steel beamapplications. The fixing method relies on theuse of the spring retention force, loads of up to 90 kg (with a4:1 safety factor) can be carriedthrough the clamping force.Explanation of the diagram:- pre-tension - Fv- clamping force - Fk- max. spring tension - Fmax- clamping range - Fb- usable action of spring - MnFor the installation of thistype of CADDY ® fixing, sometechnical details have to betaken into consideration. In particular the torquerequired, as indicated on therequired technical information.1b. Installation AdviceThe installation of spring steelCADDY clips is simple and easy:In each box of CADDY, you willfind a clear instruction sheetwith all appropriate technicalinformation.Code A(mm) N2H4 2-3 7004H24 3-8 9004H58 8-14 9004H912 14-20 9002b. Installation AdviceThe 8.8 grade high tensile steelscrew has a cupped or hollowcone point of contact to DIN 78.This ensures a constant contactpressure with a high resistanceto loosening or unscrewing.Bolt grade 8.8 high tensile steel,DIN EN 20898-1 : 1991The endurance of a clampedconnection is determined by thetorque required.1c. Basic GuidelinesERICO ® DOES NOT RECOM-MEND THE INSTALLATIONOF CADDY CLIPS ONTOALUMINIUM SECTION:• Because aluminium is a softermaterial, the clampingeffect would be reduced.Code A(mm) M N4H24i 3-8 M6 1504H58i 8-14 M6 150By tightening the bolt, an initialstress F1 is applied to the clamp. If the initial stress F1 and theload F2 are on or close to thesame axis or close to each other, the following formula applies:MAXN= 4x NU = F1 + F2NUltimate load = useful load + safety factor 4:1• The bi-metal connectionbetween the aluminiumand zinc coated clips wouldcreate a galvanic corrosivereaction causing the aluminiumto corrode.2c. Indirect ClampNEVER APPLYADDITIONAL HOT DIPGALVANISING TOSPRING STEEL CLIPS:• This would reduce oreliminate the spring steelretention force.• The appropriate corrosionprotection has already beenapplied.Do not insert anysecondary componentbetween thebeam and theCADDY clipUp to a 15 degreeinclination from thevertical axis isacceptableIn this application, the boltsetting forces are transferredto the clamping component.Bolts to tensile stress are 8.8grade high tensile steel, toDIN ISO 939.In most applications, CADDY ®clamping components aretightened with an open-endedor ring spanner.
